Job description

We are partnering with a well-established specialty infrastructure contractor to hire a Construction Project Manager for a major U.S. Army Corps of Engineers lock and dam rehabilitation project near the Missouri/Illinois border just southeast of the St. Louis metro. The company has been successfully completing specialized infrastructure projects for more than 55 years and is looking for someone who wants to build a long-term career — not simply finish the current project.

About the Role

This is an excellent opportunity for someone with a solid foundation in construction who is ready to take greater ownership of a project without needing to check every box of a traditional senior Project Manager position. Candidates coming from Project Management, Project Engineering, field leadership, construction inspection, or QA/QC backgrounds could all be successful.

Responsibilities
  • Serve as the onsite Project Manager and primary liaison between field operations, corporate project leadership, and USACE representatives
  • Coordinate day-to-day project activities alongside an experienced Superintendent and Site Safety & Health Officer
  • Manage project documentation, daily reports, submittals, RFIs, and required project records
  • Support the project's USACE Quality Control program
  • Participate in required project and quality‑control meetings
  • Track field progress and communicate project information back to corporate leadership
  • Review drawings, specifications, and project requirements
  • Coordinate inspections, testing, and documentation as needed
  • Help identify and resolve project or quality issues
  • Spend approximately 90% of your time in the onsite project office with occasional field walks and inspections
Qualifications
  • 5+ years of construction industry experience
  • Experience in a project management, project engineering, field leadership, inspection, QC, or similar capacity
  • Strong organization and documentation skills
  • Ability to work effectively with field personnel, project leadership, and customers
  • Comfort working independently in an onsite construction environment
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications
  • Willingness to learn USACE project requirements and quality‑control processes
  • Experience in heavy civil, bridges, dams, locks, marine construction, structural steel, industrial construction, welding, coatings, or other public infrastructure is especially attractive.
Preferred Skills
  • Previous U.S. Army Corps of Engineers project experience
  • USACE Construction Quality Management for Contractors (CQM‑C) certification
  • USACE RMS experience
  • AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI)
  • AMPP Coatings Inspector certification
  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or a related field

Don't have CQM-C certification? That's okay. The company can provide the required training and certification after hire.

Pay range and compensation package
  • $100,000–$115,000+ base salary, with flexibility depending on experience and qualifications
  • Company-paid employee health insurance
  • Profit sharing eligibility
  • Discretionary bonus opportunities
  • Company-provided cell phone and computer
  • Company-paid housing near the project for candidates who need it
  • Potential project-completion incentives
  • Opportunities to obtain additional industry certifications and expand your responsibilities
  • Long-term employment beyond the completion of the current project

This is a unique chance to work on a significant piece of U.S. infrastructure without needing to come in as a seasoned USACE expert. You'll work alongside an experienced field team, gain exposure to specialized heavy civil construction, and have the opportunity to develop valuable USACE and quality‑control experience. For someone currently working as a Project Engineer, Assistant Project Manager, Construction Inspector, QC professional, or field leader, this could be an especially attractive next step into greater project ownership.
