Job summary

Aviat Networks is seeking a Construction Project Manager to lead planning, execution, and delivery of microwave backhaul projects across the US. You will drive scopes, timelines, resource allocation, risk management, and stakeholder communication to ensure on‑time, on‑budget completion.

The role requires hands‑on field experience managing contractors, permitting, safety, schedules, and quality control for microwave network expansions. Travel up to 15% is expected.

Qualifications

Job description

As a Construction Project Manager, you'll play a pivotal role in leading the planning, execution, and delivery of key projects. Collaborating closely with cross-functional teams, including engineers, technicians, vendors, and stakeholders, you'll ensure projects are completed efficiently and effectively. Your responsibilities will span from defining project scopes and timelines to resource allocation, managing change, risk management, and issue resolution. Strong communication skills are vital as you'll keep stakeholders updated on progress and address any challenges that arise. Documenting milestones and evaluating project success against set benchmarks will also be part of your remit.

In addition, this role is responsible for planning, coordinating, and overseeing the construction, installation, commissioning, and closeout of microwave communication systems supporting wireless telecommunications networks. Must have first-hand recent experience managing field construction activities, contractors, permitting coordination, safety compliance, schedules, budgets, and quality control to ensure successful delivery of microwave backhaul infrastructure and network expansion projects.

Responsibilities:
  • Manage end-to-end microwave communication construction projects including site builds, upgrades, modifications, and wireless broadband
  • Oversee rooftop installation of microwave equipment, antennas, coax, mounts, shelters, cabinets, fiber connections, grounding systems, and associated infrastructure.
  • Coordinate construction activities across carriers, municipalities, utilities, engineering teams, tower crews, and subcontractors.
  • Review and interpret construction drawings, structural reports, RF designs, path studies, and engineering packages.
  • Monitor project schedules, milestones, deliverables, budgets, and resource allocations.
  • Ensure compliance with carrier standards, municipal permitting requirements, zoning regulations, environmental restrictions, and safety protocols.
  • Track permitting status, inspections, closeout documentation, and turnover packages.
  • Manage contractor performance including quality audits, punch walks, deficiency corrections, and acceptance testing.
  • Coordinate microwave path alignment, LOS verification, commissioning support, and integration activities.
  • Conduct site visits and field inspections to verify workmanship, safety compliance, and construction progress.
  • Maintain project documentation including change orders, RFIs, as-built drawings, redlines, permits, and construction reports.
  • Update carrier and client management systems with construction status, milestones, closeouts, and project documentation.
  • Identify project risks and develop mitigation strategies to minimize schedule impacts and cost overruns.
  • Support decom activities, site removals, foundation removals, equipment recovery, and restoration requirements when applicable.
  • Lead project closeout efforts including final inspections, punch completion, turnover packages, and client acceptance
  • Accountable for all project management activities related to all assigned, including serving as single point of contact for assigned projects. The Project Manager may have total Responsibility for the project or work on a portion of a project assigned to the Aviat Program Manager.
  • Utilizes PMI principles and processes for the management of all assigned projects (Initiation, Planning Execution, Controlling and Closing)
  • Assists with pre-Sales quote development as required.
  • Provides additional detail to the preliminary Scope Statement as assigned. The output of this activity will be the Baseline Statement of Work that is signed by the customer. Any changes to the signed Statement of Work (SOW) will require internal and customer approval and subsequent signoff. Also, understand Master contract agreements as the SOW develops. Change orders are required as they occur.
  • Creates the project Work Breakdown Structure that will serve as the basis for the Responsibility Matrix for the project.
  • Develops the project communication plan. Including executive level escalations and summaries, Customer status and updates, facilitate meetings and distribute meeting minutes to the project team and Project Stakeholders.
  • Manages project Risks through Risk identification, quantification, and mitigation for each project.
  • Ensures that all project signoffs are completed including, final design, SOW, Project Plan, Change Requests, Schedule modification, Lean Waivers and Project Completion.
  • Creates and manages the project plan for each project or contributes to the master project plan if a Program Manager is leading the project. Maintain project historical files.
  • Conducts regular project profitability reviews for projects directly managed and provides assistance on review preparation for projects led by Program Manager
  • Participates in customer update meetings utilizing Microsoft Office Suite, FUZE reporting
Qualifications & Competencies:
  • Proven background managing customer relationships in a competitive environment with excellent communication skills.
  • Fundamental understanding of Microwave installation requirements required.
  • Minimum of 4-6 years’ experience managing Microwave, preferred.
  • Technical understanding of Microwave products and technologies.
  • The ideal candidate will have worked in Microwave Installation, Engineering and Project Management.
  • Experience managing Verizon Construction and FUZE database experience preferred
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to manage through unplanned challenges, work through obstacles, and make sound project decisions. Attention to details and ability to meet deadlines is required.
  • High level of self-motivation and ability to manage multiple projects.
  • Ability to influence and lead cross-functional in a matrix management environment.
  • Knowledgeable of/experience with IP/MPLS and routing.
  • Proven proficiency in MS Excel, Power Point, Word, and MS Project.
  • Must be able to support Central to East regions of the US.
  • Has the ability to travel up to 15%
