Job summary

  • Strong knowledge of construction codes, safety regulations, and contract administration.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication for senior leadership presentations.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, coordinate, and oversee construction projects from inception to closeout.
  • Serve as Owner's representative to architects, engineers, contractors, and campus departments.
  • Monitor schedule, budget, and change orders; report progress and adjust as needed.
  • Develop logistics plans, cost estimates, and feasibility assessments.
  • Lead progress meetings; ensure conformance with scope and budget.
  • Ensure compliance with codes, OSHA standards, and institutional policies.
  • Maintain closeout documentation, warranties, and maintenance manuals; capture lessons learned.

Job Description:Position SummaryResponsible for planning, coordinating, and overseeing construction projects from inception through closeout on behalf of the College. In collaboration with the Director, serve as the College’s primary representative to architects, engineers, contractors, and campus departments, this position ensures all projects are delivered on time, within budget, and in full compliance with applicable codes, regulations, and institutional standards. This role requires strong leadership, strategic thinking, and the ability to manage multiple complex projects simultaneously while contributing to long-range capital planning initiatives and broader departmental objectives and opportunities for potential growth within the department.ResponsibilitiesProject Management and OversightServe as the College's representative to architects, engineers, contractors, and campus departments through all phases of planning, design, and construction.Oversee all project phases, providing regular reports on schedule, budget, progress, and required adjustments, ensuring completion on time and within budget.Develop and maintain project logistics plans, construction schedules, communication plans, cost estimates, and feasibility assessments.Attend and lead project progress meetings, providing Owner representation to ensure work scope and budget remain in conformance with project requirements.Review and evaluate change orders for acceptability, cost reasonableness, and budget impact.Proactively identify and mitigate project risks, conflicts, and potential delays.Planning, Standards and Contract AdministrationCoordinate with campus departments to establish project need, define work scope, and align objectives with institutional and long-range capital planning priorities.Assist in developing, updating, and maintaining campus-wide design and construction standards.Monitor contractor and consultant performance to ensure contractual obligations are fulfilled.Prepare and present project proposals, feasibility studies, and planning documents to campus partners as required.Compliance, Safety and CloseoutEnsure all projects comply with applicable building codes, safety codes, local and state regulations, and institutional policies.Ensure contractor compliance with OSHA standards and College safety requirements on all project sites.Ensure thorough project closeout documentation, including record drawings, warranties, and operation and maintenance manuals, is collected, organized, and filed for use by Facilities Management personnel.Conduct post-project evaluations and incorporate lessons learned into future planning and execution.Foster a culture of cooperation, professionalism, and teamwork among Facilities Management staff, the college community, and all project stakeholders.Education & ExperienceBachelor's degree in Construction Management, Architecture, Engineering, or a related field is preferred.An Associate's degree combined with significant directly relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education, technical training, and professional experience, will be considered in lieu of a Bachelor's degree.A Master's degree in a related discipline is considered a plus.Minimum five (5) years, seven (7)+ years preferred of progressive construction project management experience, with demonstrated ability to manage projects of significant scope and complexity.Experience in higher education, institutional, or public sector construction is preferred.Certifications and LicensureRequired or must obtain within defined timeframe upon hire:OSHA 10-Hour Construction Safety CertificationPreferred or demonstrate commitment to pursue:OSHA 30-Hour Construction Safety Certification (strongly preferred)Certified Construction Manager (CCM) through CMAAProfessional Engineer (PE) License or Registered Architect (RA) LicenseAdditional credentials considered a plus:Project Management Professional (PMP)LEED AccreditationKnowledge, Skills, & AbilitiesThorough knowledge of construction project management principles, contract administration, and construction documentation.Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, and technical reports.Knowledge of applicable building codes, safety regulations, and construction-related statutes.Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to prepare reports and presentations for senior leadership.Strong analytical, problem-solving, and independent decision-making skills with the ability to assess and mitigate risk.Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and project scheduling software.Knowledge of Procore construction management software is preferred.Familiarity with institutional capital planning and long-range facility master planning is preferred.Compensation Range:$92,000 - $125,000 per yearEEO Policy:Hamilton College is an equal opportunity employer and is committed to creating an accessible, supportive environment and an educational experience that recognizes a wide array of experiences, backgrounds and viewpoints as integral components of academic excellence.
