Job Summary
The Facilities Division is dedicated to providing quality leadership, agile solutions, and exceptional enterprise-integrated services that enable The Aerospace Corporation to achieve mission success in the rapidly evolving space enterprise environment. The Facilities Construction Department, a critical unit within the Facilities Division, leads general building and grounds improvement projects as well as major construction initiatives across the Corporation's owned and leased building portfolio nationwide. The Construction Project Manager (Facilities Construction Staff III/IV) serves as the primary leader overseeing all phases of assigned capital projects—from design and pre-construction through construction execution and project close-out. This role requires comprehensive project management expertise to deliver complex facility improvements that directly support mission‑critical operations.
Please note: This is a construction project management position, distinct from engineering design or maintenance/operations roles.
The selected candidate will be required to work full-time on-site at our facility in El Segundo, CA.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Review drawings and specifications for conformance with company/partner organization standards and code requirements.
- Make field checks as often as necessary to determine compliance with contract documents.
- Review the process and monitor monthly payments for the contractor, architects, engineers, and any other pertinent parties.
- Receive, review, and negotiate Contractor Change Order Proposals to achieve fair and reasonable price in accordance with the contract terms and conditions and General Conditions; provide Fair Cost Estimate as required for Change Order Approval.
- Coordinate with architect (in‑house or consultant) and internal organizations for timely development of program requirements, design drawings, and construction documents based on customer requirements.
- Oversee and review the work of architectural and engineering consultants for successful bidding and constructability.
- Manage all contractor project logs, track status, and assist in the review of Request for Information (RFIs), submittals, Change Order Proposals for proper submission and responses; review substitution submittals from contractors to ensure specifications and/or Aerospace standards are in compliance.
- Assist in the selection process of outside design consultants and interface as often as necessary with the customers regarding project status, project requirements, project approval and coordination with other departments.
What You Need to be Successful
- Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Architecture, or related discipline.
- A minimum of four or more years of increasingly responsible and relevant professional experience involved in project or construction management of commercial and/or public projects, including at least one project as a project manager with a value of $10 M or more.
- Experience preparing Construction Statements of Work (SOWs) for obtaining proposals from outside contractors, and coordinating with in‑house designers and engineers for design‑build SOW.
- Experience managing both project budget and schedule; monitoring the budget on a monthly basis and ensuring it accurately reflects project status and progress.
- Experience managing daily or upcoming activities of the contractor and reviewing contractor construction schedules for conformance with company standards and scheduling practices.
- Excellent grasp of theories, principles, and practices related to scheduling.
- Experience with construction project management software.
- Knowledge of city building codes.
- Ability to prioritize all tasks and projects for on‑time completion.
- Strong organizational skills, including maintaining all project files and record drawings.
- Demonstrated flexibility and ability to adapt to changing organizational needs.
- Strong written and oral communication skills; assist in written materials including correspondence, reports, and guidelines.
- Possess time management and project management skills.
- Willing to support minimal travel for program support (as needed).
- This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance issued by the U.S. government; U.S. citizenship is required to obtain a security clearance.
Additional Requirements for Construction Project Manager (Facilities Construction Staff IV)
- A minimum of six or more years of increasingly responsible and relevant professional experience involved in project or construction management of commercial and/or public projects, including at least one project as a project manager with a value of $10 M or more.
How You Can Stand Out
- Proficiency in Microsoft Project or Primavera P6 is preferred.
- Design Build Experience is desired.
- Experience utilizing Autodesk Bluebeam is a nice‑to‑have.
- A current and active security clearance, issued by the U.S. government, is strongly preferred; U.S. citizenship is required to obtain a security clearance.
Compensation
Salary range: $95,200 – $142,700 per annum.
