Socket.dev is seeking a seasoned Construction Project Accountant to join our Philadelphia finance team. You will manage job costing, WIP reporting, contract billing, payroll reconciliation, and month-end close while partnering with project managers and accounting staff to ensure accurate forecasts and financial reporting.

The role emphasizes precision, adherence to GAAP, and strong analytical skills to identify cost-saving opportunities and improve reporting processes.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance is required.
• Minimum of 2 years of accounting experience in the construction industry, including job costing and WIP reporting.
• Working knowledge of GAAP and construction accounting concepts (job cost accounting, percentage-of-completion, WIP schedules).
• Experience with contract billing, retainage, and account reconciliations.
• Strong Excel and Microsoft Office skills; payroll systems experience is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Prepare accurate financial statements and project reports (income statements, balance sheets, cash flow, job cost, WIP schedules).
• Analyze project costs, forecasts, and performance to identify trends and cost-control opportunities.
• Collaborate with project managers to develop forecasts and explain variances.
• Support job costing, retainage tracking, change orders, and contract billing.
• Develop management reports with key metrics and actionable recommendations.
• Post journal entries and reconcile general ledger and balance sheet accounts.
• Assist with cash flow projections and month-end close activities.
