Job summary

Insight Global is seeking a Project Engineer to support a federal construction sub-contractor on large-scale design-build projects in San Diego. You will oversee schedules, budgets, and quality from planning through completion, coordinating with field teams and federal stakeholders to keep programs on track.

The role requires 2–5+ years in construction and proficiency with MS Project, Bluebeam, and HeavyBid/HeavyJob.

Qualifications

  • 2–5+ years of construction experience.
  • Experience with a General Contractor or a subcontractor in electrical, civil, steel, mechanical, or military construction.
  • Federal construction project experience with CBP, USACE, NAVFAC, DoD, DHS, AF, or municipal projects.

Responsibilities

  • Support daily project execution aligning with schedule, budget and contract requirements.
  • Develop, update and maintain detailed project schedules in MS Project; track progress.
  • Assist with cost management, forecasting, and documentation.
  • Coordinate with superintendents, subcontractors, field teams, and federal stakeholders.
  • Manage RFIs, submittals, change orders, and project documentation.
  • Perform drawings reviews and markups using Bluebeam.
  • Ensure compliance with federal regulations, safety standards and quality control.
  • Assist with estimating and preconstruction activities (quantity takeoffs; HeavyBid/HeavyJob).
  • Support lifecycle from preconstruction through closeout, including turnover.
  • Proactively identify issues and assist PM with solutions.

Job description

Our client is seeking a Project Engineer to support a top federal construction sub-contractor specializing in large-scale design-build projects. This individual will support the Project team in overseeing complex, high-dollar projects from planning through completion, ensuring schedules, budgets, and quality standards are met. This role offers the opportunity to work on impactful infrastructure projects supporting federal projects.

  • Support daily project execution activities for large federal design-build construction projects, ensuring alignment with schedule, budget, and contract requirements
  • Assist in developing, updating, and maintaining detailed project schedules in MS Project; track progress and flag potential delays
  • Support cost management efforts, including tracking project costs, assisting with forecasting, and maintaining accurate financial documentation
  • Coordinate closely with superintendents, subcontractors, field teams, and federal stakeholders to ensure smooth communication and workflow
  • Manage and track RFIs, submittals, change orders, and other project documentation to maintain compliance and proper recordkeeping
  • Perform drawing reviews and prepare markups using Bluebeam to support design coordination and issue resolution
  • Help ensure project compliance with federal regulations, safety standards, and quality control requirements
  • Assist with estimating and preconstruction efforts, including quantity takeoffs and data input using HeavyBid/HeavyJob
  • Support project lifecycle activities from preconstruction through closeout, including closeout documentation and turnover packages
  • Proactively identify project issues and support the PM in developing solutions to maintain project performance
Must-Haves:
  • 2-5+ years of experience working in construction
  • Experience working with a General Contractor or an Electrical, Civil, Steel, Mechanical, or Structural Subcontractor, or within construction in the military
  • Federal construction project experience: CBP, USACE, NAVFAC, DoD, DHS, AF, city/state, municipal construction
  • Proficiency with MS Project (scheduling), bluebeam, or heavybid/heavyjob
