Job summary

RK&K has an opening for an experienced Project Engineer in Atlanta, GA to lead heavy civil/highway construction projects and manage GDOT programs. The candidate should be based in Atlanta or nearby within Georgia.

Preferred candidates hold a Georgia PE or CCM, with a strong track record in project administration, field inspections, and coordinating CEI teams. The role offers hybrid work opportunities and a competitive benefits package.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Ten (10)+ years of experience in heavy civil/highway construction.
  • Five (5)+ years of experience managing GDOT construction projects.
  • Advanced knowledge of construction methods, materials, and equipment.
  • Understanding of GDOT manuals, policies, and procedures.
  • Ability to understand, explain, and administer contracts; interpret plans, provisions, and specs.
  • Understanding of GDOT QA/QC development and execution process.

Responsibilities

  • Independently manage complex GDOT roadway, bridge, and other construction projects.
  • Manage site CEI teams including Junior Project Engineers, Office Managers, Senior Inspectors, Inspectors, CPM Reviewers, and admin staff.
  • Monitor traffic and erosion control implementation and maintenance for projects.
  • Supervise monthly and final estimates, change orders/supplemental agreements, and claims support.
  • Facilitate preconstruction meetings, progress meetings, and pre-activity meetings.
  • Participate in preliminary or final field plan reviews and staffing projections.
  • Provide miscellaneous support activities as necessary.

Job description

RK&K is currently hiring an experienced Project Engineer with experience in Heavy Civil/Highway construction project administration and management to join our team in Atlanta, Georgia. The ideal candidate will be based in Atlanta, but we are open to west central or southwestern locations within the state.

Candidates with a Georgia Professional Engineering license or Certified Construction Manager (CCM) through CMAA preferred are preferred, but it is not a requirement for consideration.

Essential Functions
  • Must possess high integrity and ethics in all aspects of dealing with clients, contractors, local officials, public, and peers
  • Independently manage complex GDOT roadway, bridge, and other construction projects.
  • Management of site CEI teams including Junior Project Engineers, Office Managers, Senior Inspectors, Inspectors, CPM Reviewers, and administrative staff on projects
  • Monitor traffic and erosion control implementation and maintenance for projects
  • Responsibilities include supervising monthly estimates, final estimates, change orders/supplemental agreements, and claims support
  • Facilitating preconstruction meetings, progress meetings, and pre-activity meetings
  • Participating in preliminary or final field plan reviews, project scoping meetings, and staffing projections
  • Miscellaneous support activities, as necessary
Required Skills and Experience
  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • Ten (10) + years of experience in heavy civil/highway construction
  • Five (5) + years of experience managing GDOT construction projects
  • Advanced working knowledge of the principles and practices of construction methods, materials, and equipment
  • Working knowledge of GDOT manuals, policies, and procedures, including the Construction Manual
  • Ability to understand, explain, and administer contracts; and interpret construction plans, provisions, standards, and specifications
  • Understanding of GDOT QA/QC development and execution process
Preferred Skills and Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in civil engineering, construction management, or a related field
  • Georgia Professional Engineer or Certified Construction Manager
  • GDOT Worksite Erosion Control Supervisor (WECS)
  • GDOT Field Concrete Technician Certification
  • GSWCC Level 1A
Physical Demands

This role requires the ability to perform field inspections on active construction sites. The employee must be able to stand and walk for extended periods, navigate uneven terrain, and climb ladders or stairs. Ability to lift and carry inspection equipment and materials weighing up to 20-30 pounds on an occasional basis, with or without reasonable accommodation. Work is performed outdoors in varying weather conditions and may include exposure to construction-related hazards.
