Job summary

• Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance or business management is required.
• 5-8 years of relevant construction industry experience.
• Experience with union payroll is a plus.
• Strong working knowledge of construction accounting concepts, practices and procedures, including WIP, percentage of completion and revenue recognition.
• Experience with Sage Intacct or other construction ERP systems.
• Strong Excel skills and ability to manage staff.
• Ability to multi-task and meet deadlines.

Position Overview

C&S is currently looking to hire a Project Controller to manage the project accounting functions for our growing construction business. This position will report to the Director of Accounting & Finance, working closely with construction department leaders. This position will oversee the accounts receivable/invoicing processes, the work in progress (WIP) job schedule and assist in completing the monthly financials.

Position Responsibilities

• Oversight of accounts receivable, invoicing, and preparation of the monthly WIP report, including reconciliations of revenues, job costs, billings and under (over) billings between the WIP report, general ledger and subsidiary reports from the Company's accounting system.
• Working closely with the construction teams to ensure projects, contract prices, estimated costs to complete and gross profit and job costing are done accurately.
• Overseeing regulatory reporting, including tax and compliance.
• Working with the corporate accounting team to ensure job cost coding accuracy and proper cut-off for month end reporting.
• Assisting in the accumulation and consolidation of financial data necessary for an accurate accounting of consolidated business results.
• Working with external auditors providing necessary year-end documents.
• Assessing current accounting operations, offering recommendations for improvement, and implementing new processes.
• Evaluating the effectiveness of accounting software and supporting databases, as needed.
• Providing management with information vital to the decision-making process.
• Developing and monitoring business performance metrics.
• Managing, training, and retaining skilled accounting staff.
• Responsible for directing project accounting functions, policies, procedures, and practices.
• Ensures accounting procedures abide by company, legal and GAAP procedures.
• Utilize safe work practices in accordance with federal, state, local, and company standards.
• Communicate incidents, accidents, near misses, potential hazards, and unsafe working conditions to a supervisor or the Health and Safety Department as soon as identified.

Skills/Education/Experience

• Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance or business management.
• Construction certification (CMA, CCIFP) a plus.
• 5-8 years of relevant experience in the construction field, required.
• Experience with union payroll, a plus.
• Must have strong working knowledge of construction accounting concepts, practices and procedures. This includes experience with WIP reports, percentage of completion and revenue recognition.
• Experience with construction ERP systems, with Sage Intacct a plus.
• Strong Excel skills.
• Ability to effectively manage staff with varied experience and job responsibilities.
• Individual needs to be a team player, detail oriented and can multi-task with daily, weekly, and monthly deadlines.
• Communication skills for dealing with internal and external customers required.

Estimated Compensation Range

$90,000 - $100,000/year*

*Actual compensation may vary based on related work experience, geographical location and market conditions, education/training, certifications, and other credentials, as well as applicable knowledge and skills.
