Job summary

Moss Utilities, an ESOP-owned construction specialist in the Dallas–Fort Worth area, seeks a Project Accountant to manage financial health across a portfolio of utility projects. You will partner with PMs, Operations, and the Controller to deliver accurate cost, billing, WIP, and revenue recognition.

The role emphasizes clean month-end close, timely pay applications, and early visibility into fade, overruns, and cash risk on each job. Occasional site visits and PPE are required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance.
• 3+ years of project or construction accounting experience.
• Knowledge of percentage-of-completion accounting, WIP schedules, and over/under billings.
• Hands-on experience with progress billing, retainage, and lien waivers.
• Advanced Excel: lookups, pivot tables, reconciliations.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple jobs against month-end deadlines.

Responsibilities

• Set up new jobs in Spectrum: cost codes, phases, budgets, contract values, retainage terms, and billing method.
• Review prime contracts and subcontracts for billing, retainage, lien waiver, bonding, and insurance requirements.
• Process change orders and budget revisions; track pending and unapproved change orders.
• Prepare monthly progress billings and pay applications with PMs.
• Submit billings and track approval through payment.
• Monitor AR aging and retainage DSO; escalate as needed.
• Review job cost detail monthly; reconcile committed costs and open POs.
• Support percentage-of-completion revenue recognition under ASC 606.
• Verify certificates of insurance, W-9s, and lien waivers before payment.
• Lead financial closeout: final billing, retainage release, final lien waivers.
