Job summary

Staffmark Group is hiring a Project Accountant in Lafayette, LA to monitor budgets, forecast costs, prepare monthly cost reports, and support project financials. You’ll collaborate with project managers and accounting teammates to keep projects on track and financially transparent.

Ideal candidates hold a Bachelor's degree in Accounting or related field, 3+ years of accounting experience (construction/engineering preferred), and advanced Excel skills.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting or related field (preferred).
• 3+ years of accounting experience, ideally in construction or engineering.
• Strong knowledge of job cost accounting, WIP schedules, and AIA billing.
• Experience with construction software (Sage, Procore, Foundations, Viewpoint) is a plus.
• Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills.

Responsibilities

• Monitor and manage project budgets, forecasts, and cost reports.
• Track project costs and prepare monthly job cost reports.
• Process subcontractor invoices, change orders, and progress billings.
• Collaborate with project managers on budget revisions and cost-to-complete estimates.
• Set up new projects in the accounting system (including billing terms and codes).
• Manage accounts receivable and follow up on outstanding project payments.
• Prepare and analyze project-specific financial statements.
• Support monthly close process with variance analysis.
• Ensure compliance with internal controls, GAAP, and industry regulations.
• Maintain documentation for audits and contractual requirements.
