Job summary

WHKS is seeking a Civil Engineer or Construction Observer with 3+ years of experience to work on municipal, transportation and other infrastructure projects in the Springfield area. The role combines field observations with office design support, and travel to project sites is possible from home or office.

Responsibilities include verifying contractor work, material testing, preparing reports, and supporting CAD drafting for project engineers during planning, design, and construction phases.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of experience in the construction or design of transportation and municipal projects.
• A valid driver’s license.
• Experience with CADD (MicroStation or Civil 3D).

Responsibilities

• Performing construction observation which may include: Verifying the quality of the contractor’s work and compliance with the plans and specifications.
• Conducting field-required material testing and preparing material reports, test results and material sources.
• Maintaining daily logs of inspections and reviewing discrepancies with the appropriate parties.
• Preparing and reviewing pay applications.
• Assisting the office staff with preparation of drawings and plan sets.
• Providing design/CD drafting support to project engineers during planning, design, and construction of transportation and municipal projects.

WHKS has a great opportunity available for a Civil Engineer or Construction Observer with 3+ years of experience who is interested in working with a wide variety of challenging engineering projects in both the field and office. The candidate will use their knowledge and expertise in the construction and design of municipal, transportation, and other infrastructure type projects. Work will include the construction and design of roadways, bridges, and other civil engineering projects. This position offers the flexibility to travel to project sites in and around the Springfield area from your home or the office.

Salary Range:

• $50,000-$80,000 annually

Preferred

• A Bachelor’s or Associate’s Degree in Civil Engineering, Civil Engineering Technology,
  Construction Management, or a related field
• Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) Documentation of Contract Quantities certification
• Experience with IDOT’s Construction & Materials Management System (CMMS)
