Job summary

Atlas is seeking a Senior Construction Materials Testing Technician in New Jersey to apply extensive CMT expertise on diverse projects. Certifications in ACI, ICC, and CWI, plus 5+ years of field testing, are required to ensure quality and safety on site.

The role involves field testing, reporting, and collaboration with engineers, with occasional nights/weekends and regional travel. A valid driver’s license and a high school diploma are required; further education may be considered.

Qualifications

• Must hold current certifications in ACI, ICC, CWI and Troxler Nuclear Gauge Safety and Operation.
• Minimum of 5 years of construction materials testing (CMT) experience.
• Valid driver's license with acceptable driving record.

Responsibilities

• Perform construction-related field testing as directed by the CMT Manager and supervisory staff.
• Work 8-10 hours per day, including nights and weekends as project demands.
• Communicate field observations and test results to the Project Manager and/or Engineer.
• Transport testing equipment, specimens, documentation, and other materials to field locations and labs.
• Complete daily field observation reports and project summaries using electronic systems.
• Perform field density testing on soil, asphalt, and other materials per standards and procedures.
• Assist technicians, engineers, and staff with project-related tasks and provide cross-department support.

Job Description

We're looking for a Senior Construction Materials Testing Technician to join our team. If you have certifications in one or more of the following areas—ICC Reinforced Concrete, ICC Masonry, ICC Soils, ICC Structural Steel, or ICC Spray-Applied Fireproofing—and at least five years of construction materials testing and special inspection experience, this is an excellent opportunity to apply your expertise, contribute to a variety of challenging projects, and work alongside a team dedicated to quality and safety.

Core Responsibilities

• Perform construction-related field testing as directed by the Construction Materials Testing (CMT) Manager and supervisory staff.
• Work 8-10 hours per day, including nights and weekends as required by project demands.
• Communicate field observations and test results to the Project Manager and/or Engineer, exercising limited independent decision-making in the field.
• Transport testing equipment, specimens, documentation, and other materials to field personnel, laboratories, clients, or office locations; assist with equipment setup and mobilization.
• Complete and enter daily field observation reports and project summaries using electronic reporting systems.
• Perform field quality control testing of reinforcing steel and reinforced concrete construction.
• Conduct field density testing on soil, asphalt, and other construction materials in accordance with applicable standards and procedures.
• Assist technicians, engineers, and other professional staff with project-related tasks and provide support to other departments as needed.
• Adhere to Atlas' safety policies, procedures, and all applicable health and safety requirements.
• Read, interpret, and apply construction plans, specifications, and project requirements.
• Follow Atlas' Quality Control (QC) Plan, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and established testing protocols.
• Maintain a professional demeanor while interacting with clients, contractors, and project stakeholders.

You’ll thrive here if you have

• Current certifications in ACI (American Concrete Institute), ICC (International Code Council), CWI (Certified Welding Inspector), and Troxler Nuclear Gauge Safety and Operation.
• Minimum of 5 years of construction materials testing (CMT) experience required.
• Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Additional education and/or relevant industry experience may be considered in lieu of certain degree requirements; however, the required certifications listed above must be maintained.

Preferred Experience

• 5+ years of professional experience in construction materials testing, inspection, or related construction services.
• Experience performing field testing and inspection of concrete, soil, asphalt, reinforcing steel, and other construction materials.
• Relevant CMT certifications, training, and industry experience.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull up to 50 pounds on a regular basis.
• Ability to stoop, bend, kneel, climb, walk, and stand for extended periods throughout the workday.
• Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and on uneven terrain.

The expected salary range for the position is displayed in accordance with the state's law. Final agreed upon compensation is based upon individual qualifications and experience.
