Job Description
Thompson Engineering is looking for a qualified Construction Materials Testing (CMT) Technician in Houston, TX. This position is responsible for the daily oversight of the construction materials testing and inspection on construction sites to ensure specified standards of quality are met.
Duties
- Utilize a 40 lb. nuclear gauge to run tests on construction materials
- Obtain concrete samples from the ready mix trucks
- Make concrete test cylinders
- Run tests on concrete samples and deliver the samples to the laboratory
- Observe and record construction crew performance data for related activities
- Perform visual inspection of rebar
- Obtain and deliver soil samples from the jobsite to the laboratory
- Interact with clients and contractors in a professional and ethical manner
- Ensure that company-owned equipment is maintained in good working order for use on projects and/or assignments
- Ensure that standards for quality and quantity of work are implemented on all work assignments
- Establish and maintain a daily diary of all field activities for each project
- Submit daily reports and other documentation to the Team Leader as required by project specifications and/or applicable criteria
- Perform all tasks assigned in a professional and ethical manner and according to company policies and procedures
- Report to the Team Leader corrective actions (when necessary) to ensure work quality and standards are maintained
- Follow all written procedures for work being performed
- Proactively review all project documents and testing procedures, demonstrating comprehension of technical requirements
- Prepare reports and perform field activities in a timely manner
Other Responsibilities

- Attend and actively participate in safety meetings and training programs
- Perform other duties as required
Qualifications
Minimum Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Six (6) months of experience in construction material testing
- ACI Level I Certification
- Nuclear Gauge Certification
- Effective written and verbal communication skills
- Valid driver's license
- Ability to read and write in English
Physical Requirements
- Willingness to work flexible schedules and overtime as needed
- Ability to lift and carry a minimum of 50 lbs.
- Ability to drive a company vehicle safely
- Pull or push 400 lbs. in a wheelbarrow
- Ability to walk, stoop, bend, and climb stairs and ladders
- Stand, walk, and balance on uneven terrain
- Work in high places and open structures
- Work outdoors in various weather conditions
- Wear appropriate PPE for hazardous materials
