ANTHC is seeking a Construction Materials Technician to support the Division of Environmental Health and Engineering with shipping, receiving, and distribution of construction materials and equipment across Alaska. This role involves hands-on logistics, packaging, and coordination with carriers to ensure timely delivery.
Ideal candidates have a high school diploma, experience in warehouse or shipping, and the ability to obtain HAZMAT certification.

Under general direction provides expediting, receiving, staging and shipping of construction materials, movement of vehicles and heavy-equipment in support of ANTHC Division of Environmental Health and Engineering sanitation projects. The positions involve hands on skills in requisitioning, delivering, preparing, packaging, consolidating, and coordinating shipment to various areas of the State in an accurate and timely manner. Ensures processes and practices are efficient, effective, compliant, and directly support ANTHC strategic objectives.

The Construction Material Technician I, II, and III positions provide opportunity for career advancement within the construction materials technician team. These positions are structured as an advancement pathway to the Construction Technician Supervisor position.
S erves internal and external customers, selecting and collaborating with vendors, transportation carriers, community members and other ANTHC staff regarding shipment of materials and equipment.
Orders, restocks, receives, prepares, and transports construction materials, equipment and instruments to all areas of assigned responsibility. Verifies the content, quantity and condition of materials; maintains documentation of materials and equipment. Verifies purchase orders with DEHE staff checking carefully for any discrepancies.
C onsolidates construction materials and equipment for shipment. Determines the most efficient and cost effective method of packaging and shipping supplies and equipment. Crates or packages shipment loads and delivers to transportation carrier. Uses postage meters and scales as needed. Schedules and coordinates pick up and shipment of materials and equipment as necessary; following up and tracking on shipment of products to ensure timely delivery to destination.
C onfers with DEHE staff, manufacturers, suppliers, agents, and technicians to discuss and resolve materials issues, such as materials quality, accuracy, packaging, damage complaints, design changes, and other construction related problems.
C omplies with proper shipping procedures according to mode of transportation and prepares proper shipping documents. Completes hazardous materials documents to accompany shipments. Assures the safety and security of work environment and items shipped. Handles and repackages hazardous materials for shipment following safety procedures for proper storage, handling and shipment of hazardous materials.
O perates motorized vehicles and equipment for pickup and/or delivery of materials and equipment. Secures freight according to safety procedures. Performs routine preventative maintenance on equipment to ensure proper operational and serviceability.
P erforms other duties as assigned.

Acts as subject matter expert, training resources, mentor and professional role model for the Construction Materials Tech team. Works with the Lead Construction Materials Technician to provide input on process improvement opportunities and support implementing change process. Knowledge of construction related materials and equipment.
Knowledge of rural Alaska logistics.
Knowledge of safety procedures for proper storage, handling and shipment of hazardous materials.
Knowledge of the regulatory standards of shipping and receiving.
Knowledge of methods and procedures for loading/unloading and packaging materials and equipment.
Knowledge of organizing, containing, and transporting items of varying compounds, textures or quantities.
Skill in effective oral and written communication.
Skill in building pallet loads according to transportation methods used in shipment of items.
Skill in scheduling and coordinating shipment of materials and equipment.
Skill in implementing an automated processes utilizing various software applications to track all materials inventory.
Skill in computer usage (Microsoft Excel, SharePoint, Outlook, and Smartphone applications).
Skill in assessing and prioritizing multiple tasks, projects and demands.

A high school diploma or GED equivalent.
Non-supervisory - One (1) year of construction material transporting and shipping, or warehouse operation experience. An equivalent combination of relevant education and/or training may substitute for experience.

Must be able to obtain HAZMAT certification for shipping of hazardous related construction materials. American Heart Association First AID/CPR certification will be required after hire date. Other trainings and certifications as applicable.

T raining or experience specific to warehouse operation settings is highly preferred. As is experience with construction materials transporting and shipping. Must possess an Alaska driver’s license with a clean driving record. Must be eligible for certification to handle, ship and transport hazardous materials.
