Job summary

Maricopa County Department of Transportation (MCDOT) is seeking an entry-level Materials Testing Technician to perform laboratory testing of construction materials and assist with field inspections. The role supports roadway and bridge projects, following procedures and standards to ensure quality materials for transportation infrastructure.

Qualifications

• Two years of experience in a construction materials laboratory or related testing.
• High school diploma or GED; post-secondary education may substitute for experience.
• Must obtain ATTI Soils & Aggregates within six months.
• Must obtain ACI Strength within twelve months.
• Must obtain ATTI Asphalt, ATTI Field, and Nuclear Gauge & Radiation Safety within eighteen months.
• Must obtain ACI Field within twenty-four months.
• NICET Construction Materials Testing/Highway Construction certification is valued.

Responsibilities

• Perform laboratory testing of construction materials used in assigned projects.
• Perform field inspections and testing to ensure compliance with material specifications and construction methods.
• Inspect vendor/supplier facilities, equipment, and manufacturing processes.
• Participate in proficiency sample testing and on-site certification inspections conducted by national certifying agencies.
• Complete and report test results of assigned special research projects in accordance with instructions specified by the requester or the laboratory supervisor.
• Prepare and submit inspection reports, test results, and summaries for review.
• Perform maintenance, calibration, and verification of laboratory and field-testing equipment.
• Participate in training and assist in training new Materials Testing Technicians.
• Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
