Job summary

TTL Construction Materials Field Technician role in Decatur and Huntsville, AL, involves performing routine field and laboratory tests to verify conformance to plans and specifications. You will monitor materials used in construction and prepare data sheets, with supervision as needed.

The position requires a high school diploma or equivalent, strong communication skills, a valid driver’s license, and the ability to lift 50+ lbs and work outdoors.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent; emphasis in physical sciences and/or math.
• Ability to communicate professionally orally and in writing.
• Good driving record.
• Perform heavy lifting up to 50+ lbs.
• Sufficient stamina to work in outdoor environment.
• 1 year of testing experience in soil, concrete, earthwork, and asphalt.

Responsibilities

• Performs routine field and laboratory tests and inspections for the purpose of verifying conformance to construction plans and specifications.
• Monitors, observes, and samples the materials used in construction work.
• Follow proper procedures, perform accurate computations, and maintains cordial relationships with coworkers, clients, contractors, etc.
• Prepares daily reports and data sheets. Operates with close to moderate supervision.
• Typical activities include: observation and monitoring of backfilling of subgrades, installation of reinforcing, fresh concrete sampling, base stone, and asphalt densities.
