Your Role: Hands-On, Impactful, and Fast-Paced

As a Construction Materials Engineering Technician in Knoxville, Tennessee, you will play a crucial role in shaping the infrastructure of your community by performing both field and laboratory tests on various construction materials such as soil, concrete, asphalt, and aggregates. This position offers the chance to work on challenging and rewarding projects within the construction sector, interact with clients, mentor junior team members, and contribute to the growth and success of S&ME.


What You'll Do:

  • Plan Review: Examine construction plans and specifications to ensure they align perfectly with on-site conditions.
  • Material Testing: Perform and oversee tests and inspections on construction materials, including soil, concrete, asphalt, and more, to verify compliance with project specifications and industry standards.
  • Software Utilization: Use advanced software like Metafield to accurately document and report testing results.
  • Equipment Calibration: Calibrate testing equipment to industry standards to guarantee precise and reliable results.
  • Special Inspections: Conduct special inspections to ensure regulatory compliance and uphold quality assurance on all projects.

What We're Looking For:

  • A High School diploma/GED
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in construction testing/inspections of soil, concrete, masonry, and/or asphalt materials
  • Five(5) or more active certifications, a plus:
    • American Concrete Institute (ACI): Field Testing Grade I; Strength Testing Technician; Laboratory Technician
    • International Code Council (ICC): Special Inspector (Reinforced Concrete, Masonry, Soils)
  • Effective communication skills (speaking, reading, and writing) using the English language
  • Math skills with a basic understanding of weight, volume, pressure, and units of measure

What to Expect:

  • Outdoor, hands-on work in all weather conditions
  • Walking over rough terrain and standing for long periods (up to 12 hours)
  • Lifting and carrying 40-50 lbs. of materials and equipment
  • Safely handling field tools and maneuvering equipment on active construction sites
