Job Summary

Construction Managers are Dennis Group’s project site supervisors responsible for overseeing daily construction activities, including coordination of sub-contractors, site safety programs, project schedule, and project budget. Our projects focus on designing and building food and beverage process facilities (industrial / MEP projects). This role requires coordination with multiple engineering groups, designers, and architects. The construction manager must be a skilled communicator, capable of interacting with all personnel levels, facilitating meetings, and possessing strong technical skills across various software programs.

The Construction Manager ensures project progression through diligent management of field and office tasks, including contract administration, project planning, scheduling, reporting, and advising on project management issues.

Typical responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Site Supervisory Responsibilities

  • Daily supervision of construction activities, subcontractor coordination, and site safety programs
  • Supervision of assigned field engineers or Jr Construction Managers when directed

Responsibilities

  • Autonomous oversight of medium-sized projects
  • Collaborate with project management to develop and update project scope, budget, and schedule
  • Project accounting, budgeting, and cost management
  • Establish and maintain site safety procedures with the safety team
  • Oversee installation of process, mechanical, and utility equipment
  • Manage permitting, code compliance, and regulatory approvals
  • Handle change orders and general construction administration
  • Coordinate field engineering and inspections
  • Manage third-party testing and inspections
  • Research construction management best practices
  • Work collaboratively with owners, subcontractors, building officials, and A/E team as this role is client-facing
  • Prepare and administer third-party agreements

Additional Responsibilities

  • Conduct jobsite walks and audits to ensure project progress and subcontractor compliance
  • Procure project services and equipment (rentals, PPE, etc.)
  • Manage project punch-list inspections
  • Promote effective communication among project participants
  • Support and coordinate facility start-up
  • Maintain project reports and logs
  • Assist in schedule compliance and resource planning with subcontractors
  • Review and maintain submittals, RFIs, and change orders
  • Coordinate with Project Controllers and Project Managers on invoices and billing
  • Perform engineering calculations
  • Prepare permit applications
  • Assist in developing work plans and interpreting drawings and specifications for field crews
  • Coordinate project close-out activities
  • Uphold safety responsibilities across various capacities
  • Support talent development within the organization and provide coaching or mentoring as directed

Required Education, Skills, and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in construction science, building science, construction engineering, or related field
  • 4-7 years of design-build experience on industrial projects
  • 4-7 years overseeing subcontractors and project schedules
  • 4-7 years of client interaction with strong technical, organizational, managerial, and communication skills
  • Experience working on industrial building projects with a fundamental understanding of construction phases, documents, schedules, and budgets
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD is a plus
  • Willingness to travel up to 100% across the USA and possibly Canada
  • Work schedule includes 10 days onsite followed by 4 days off

Physical Requirements

  • Prolonged sitting at a desk and working on a computer, as well as standing and walking on uneven surfaces at the site
  • Ability to traverse and inspect all areas of the jobsite in all weather conditions, including walking, climbing, reaching, bending, crawling, and stretching
  • Exposure to construction site hazards
  • On-call availability for delays, emergencies, and weather issues
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds

Travel Requirement

  • Position involves travel throughout the US and Canada, with a schedule of 10 days on-site and 4 days off, project durations from 6 to 12+ months, and provided per diems and travel provisions. Up to 100% overnight travel may be required.
