Job summary

Hoffman Construction Company seeks a Construction Manager for Telecom/Security Systems to lead the electrical team on hi-tech projects from design through commissioning, onsite at Claude, TX. You will coordinate with design teams, clients and subcontractors to resolve complex electrical coordination issues and ensure quality control.

The role requires strong leadership, scheduling discipline and hands-on involvement in startup activities, RFIs and submittals.

Qualifications

  • Thorough understanding of Telecom/Security Systems electrical construction.
  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical/Civil Engineering or Construction Management, or equivalent.
  • Education background in materials and methods of construction.
  • Minimum 5 years electrical construction experience.
  • Experience in industrial/hi-tech semiconductor projects.
  • LEED Accredited Professional, or ability to obtain within 18 months preferred.
  • Ability to coordinate with trade teams and field personnel under pressure.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee telecom/security systems electrical subcontractors daily to maintain schedule and startup support.
  • Interpret construction documents, control sequences and technical manuals.
  • Lead startup meetings with managers, designers, subcontractors, utilities and owners.
  • Interface between managers and subcontractors for mechanical/electrical startups.
  • Verify documentation and startup readiness of equipment.
  • Coordinate MEP systems with civil, architectural and structural elements.
  • Organize training for Owner’s personnel on operations and maintenance.
  • Review submittals and ensure accuracy and functionality of MEP components.
  • Manage RFIs and changes issued by team members.
  • Record, file and organize project documentation; field surveying and layout.
  • Provide onsite technical advisory support; access all areas of site as needed.
  • Flexible schedule to accommodate project changes; assist in low voltage budget estimation.
  • Manage subcontractor contracts, buyouts and schedule of values.
  • Oversee staffing and publish meeting minutes and activity checklists.

Job description

The Construction Manager - Telecom/Security Systems will manage the telecom/security systems electrical team and information from start to finish for large hi-tech projects. The Telecom/Security Systems Construction Manager will collaborate with design professionals, clients, subcontractors, and craftspeople to address complex electrical coordination issues. This position is on the front line to aid in avoiding and solving technical problems that arise. The Telecom/Security Systems Construction Manager will lead onsite electrical quality control efforts, which will include document review during preconstruction through commissioning and punch list. This position will be fully onsite at the project location in Claude, TX.

SALARY RANGE: $90,000 - $150,000DOE + 12% geo-uplift, per diem & inctentives

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Oversee Telecom/Security Systems electrical subcontractors and vendors installation work daily to insure they are maintaining their installation schedule, support system startup and commissioning activities.
  • Interpretation of construction documents, controlsequences and technical manuals.
  • Run startup meetings involving Area Construction Managers, Design Team members,multiplesubcontractors, local utility agenciesand owners to coordinate/ driveMEP system starts up activities
  • Interface between Area Construction Managers and multiple subcontractors to assist in coordinating mechanical/electrical startups
  • Verify all documentationis complete and equipment being prepared for startup is construction complete and can be safely started
  • CoordinateMEP systems with civil, architectural, and structural elements within the overall project design
  • Organize and facilitate training of Owner’s personnel in the operations and maintenance of MEP systems
  • Review and processproject submittalinformation and coordinate betweenmultiplesubmittalstoensurethe accuracy and functionality of each component of the variousMEP systems
  • Receiving and distributingrequestsfor information (RFI)and change documents issued by otherteam members
  • Organization, ensure completion and filing of record documents
  • Field surveying layout of control lines and benchmarks
  • Information storageand retrieval using a computer and other handheld electronic hardware.
  • Technical advisor at onsite field construction office
  • Must be able to access all areas and levels of construction site for work progress review
  • Work schedule must be flexible to allow extended hours or off shift work to accommodate changing construction schedule and sequences
  • Assist in estimating low voltage electrical budgets
  • Secure low voltage electrical subcontractor and equipment buyout
  • Manage low voltage electrical subcontractor contracts and contract modifications
  • Oversee billing and schedule of values for low voltage electrical subcontractors and vendors
  • Assist with managing low voltage electrical team project staffing
  • Write and publish meeting minutes, schedule graphs and activity checklists
  • Provide clear communication verbally, written and electronically

Qualifications:

Professional Experience and Education:

  • Demonstrate a thorough understanding of all aspects of Telecom/Security Systems electrical construction
  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or equivalent degree and/or field work experience
  • Education background in materials and methods of construction
  • A minimum of 5 years of electrical construction experience
  • Specific experience in industrial and/or hi-tech semiconductor types of projects
  • LEED Accredited Professional, or the ability to become accredited within 18 months preferred
  • Experience in organizing technical data in a neat and accurate method; familiar with CSI specification system for construction
  • Ability to work closely with trade and craft people in a field work situation. Patience and professionalism are essential to being able to maintain a cooperative attitude through pressure situations

  • Skills in handling several work activities at once while frequently interrupted by phone calls and urgent questions on work in progress
  • Training in design and construction document reading, design specifications, survey theory and techniques
  • Highly developed visual observation and interpretation skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; must be able to work closely with project owners, architects, engineers, equipment manufacturers, vendors, and subcontractors
  • Must be a dedicated team player, self-starter, flexible and be able to work well with a variety of personalities and minimal instruction. Must be able to remain calm in high-pressure situations.
  • Must be able to physically access all areas and levels of construction site for work progress review.
  • Work schedule must be flexible to allow extended hours or off shift work to accommodate changing construction schedule and sequences.
  • Proficient in Windows, Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, and Outlook) and Bluebeam
  • Experience with project management software such as Prolog, Procore, E-Builder, Microsoft Project, and Primavera Project Planner(P6)
  • Experience with design software such as AutoCAD, Revit and Navisworks

Physical and Mental Requirements:

  • Standing/Walking/Sitting: Workday is a combination of being stationary and moving about the work location.
  • Must be able to climb stairs: Must be able to ascend and descend ladders, scaffolds, stairs and work in confined spaces.
  • Hands/Arms: Constantly operates a computer and other office productivity machinery, such as a calculator, copy machine, and computer printer.
  • Sight: Specific vision abilities required include close vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus in an outdoor environment. Must be able to safely operate a vehicle with a valid driver's license. The worker is required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; reading printed and digital documents
  • Hearing:Must be able to work in proximity to loud equipment more than 75% of the time. Must be able to wear hearing protection as necessary. Often required to communicate with customers and coworkers in an office setting and on the job site.
  • Speech:Abilityto communicate laws, ordinances, plans, regulations, directives, and standard operating procedures related to project scope in English.
  • Lift/Carry: Must have the ability to lift or manipulate 50 pounds to a height of 3 feet and carry or push it 50-100 feet.
  • Bending/Twisting: Frequent.
  • Kneeling/Crouching/Crawling: Must be able to regularly position self in a kneeling, crouching or crawling position for the purpose of examining project work.
  • Must use independent judgment, and organizational and problem-solving skills to determine best method to accomplish desired results.
