Job summary

STG Inc. seeks a Construction Manager to lead field operations in Anchorage, AK, overseeing pre-planning, scheduling, safety, and project execution for Alaska-based sites. You will coordinate labor, subcontractors, equipment, and material delivery while ensuring adherence to drawings, specs, and budgets.

The role collaborates with the Project Manager, communicates with clients, and serves as the primary field leader for daily operations, safety, and quality control across assigned projects.

Qualifications

  • Advanced knowledge of commercial and civil construction methods.
  • Experience with field operations, sequencing, and project lifecycle management.
  • Familiarity with estimating, procurement, scheduling, execution, and closeout.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate project activities including estimating, bidding, scheduling, reporting, and client interface.
  • Develop proposals, work plans and schedules for bids/estimates.
  • Prepare and monitor RFIs, design clarifications, permits, and project documentation.
  • Support the Project Manager with planning, scheduling, and workflow management for assigned projects.
  • Oversee all project field activities including labor assignments, contractor coordination, equipment use, and material delivery.
  • Ensure field work aligns with drawings, specifications, safety requirements, and project goals.
  • Perform jobsite visits to monitor progress, address issues, and support field personnel.
  • Provide hands-on construction expertise to assist other trades when needed.
  • Determine labor requirements and oversee subcontractor performance.
  • Coordinate the procurement, delivery, and allocation of materials, equipment, and tools.
  • Review and code project-related timesheets.
  • Prepare progress reports summarizing materials used, schedule adjustments, and milestones.
  • Maintain accurate documentation including start-up materials, reports, and project closeout records.
  • Monitor field costs, quantities, and productivity to support budget adherence and identify variances or risks.
  • Identify, document, and support pricing of scope changes, field directives, and change orders.
  • Lead field quality control activities including inspections, punch lists, corrective actions, and acceptance readiness
  • Support STG’s Health and Safety Program and model safety-first behavior.
  • Respond to safety audits, observations, and compliance needs; suspend work as necessary.
  • Collaborate with Risk Management to resolve safety disputes.
  • Ensure safety equipment is available and used appropriately.
  • Serve as initial point of contact for employee safety concerns.
  • Report incidents, conditions, or practices impacting safety, ethics, or profitability.
  • Supervise field crew and subcontractors in coordination with the project Foreman.
  • Plan crew mobilization, rotation, housing, and logistics for remote or camp-based project assignments.
  • Maintain positive relationships with local community representatives and authorities.
  • Represent STG in the field with owners, engineers, and stakeholders during site visits, inspections, and meetings.
  • Communicate regularly with internal departments and project teams.
  • Support workforce development through coaching, performance feedback, and mentoring of field supervisors and crews.
  • Maintain punctual attendance and required certifications.
  • Support training, development, and team collaboration.

What can you expect?

As the Construction Manager, you will work onsite in Anchorage, AK and will oversee pre‑planning, field operations and project execution for assigned construction projects across Alaska. You will manage site safety, field productivity, scheduling, quality control, subcontractor performance, and resource coordination to ensure projects are delivered safely, efficiently, on schedule, within budget, and in accordance with contract documents. Supervisory Functions:

This position supervises field crews in partnership with project Foremen and oversees subcontractors assigned to the project.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:
  • Advanced knowledge of commercial and civil construction methods, field operations, sequencing, and project lifecycle management, including estimating, procurement, scheduling, execution, and closeout.
  • Knowledge of construction contract documents, including drawings, specifications, scopes of work, subcontracts, change orders, and general conditions; ability to interpret and apply contract requirements to field operations.
  • Knowledge of federal, state, and local construction regulations, permitting processes, and compliance standards applicable to Alaska-based and remote projects.
  • Knowledge of safety regulations and best practices, including OSHA requirements, hazard identification, job hazard analysis (JHA), incident reporting, and corrective action procedures.
  • Knowledge of budgeting principles, cost control methodologies, earned value concepts, and financial tracking related to labor, equipment, materials, and subcontracted work.
  • Knowledge of construction quality management practices, inspection processes, testing requirements, and documentation necessary to achieve contract compliance and acceptance.
  • Knowledge of environmental protection requirements and cultural or land‑use considerations applicable to construction in Alaska, including work in sensitive or regulated areas.
  • Skill in developing, reviewing, and managing project schedules using scheduling software (including Microsoft Project) and coordinating sequencing across multiple trades and subcontractors.
  • Skill in preparing and evaluating bid packages, change requests, and procurement documentation.
  • Skill in reviewing, coding, and approving invoices, timesheets, and expense documentation to ensure alignment with project budgets and contractual obligations.
  • Skill in documenting field conditions, delays, disruptions, and impacts to support change management, claims avoidance, and dispute resolution.
  • Ability to supervise, mentor, and direct field personnel in coordination with Foremen, including assigning work, monitoring productivity, providing feedback, and supporting workforce development.
  • Ability to evaluate subcontractor performance, enforce contractual requirements, and resolve field conflicts in a timely and professional manner.
