Overview

Apex Systems is hiring a Construction Manager for a Transmission Line Project in the Sweetwater, TX area. The Construction Manager serves as the operational lead responsible for driving project success from the field, acting as the critical link between site activities and project leadership to ensure safety, quality, schedule adherence, and team coordination.

Job Responsibilities
  • Documentation
    • Review and understand all contract documents, permits, and regulatory requirements.
    • Familiarize yourself with the contractor’s safety plan and ensure it aligns with project standards.
    • Identify gaps or inconsistencies in documentation and coordinate with safety and environmental teams to resolve them.
  • Project Kickoff
    • Lead the initial contractor meeting and clearly communicate expectations.
    • Attend and support site-specific orientations hosted by the contractor.
    • Prepare by reviewing haul routes, SWPPP, crossing agreements, drawings, material logistics, schedules, QA/QC protocols, and engineering submittals.
    • Set the tone for field operations by training and guiding your internal team.
  • Safety Orientation
    • Ensure full understanding of the site-specific safety plan.
    • Conduct and document safety assessments and corrective action logs.
    • Independently gather safety data and include it in weekly reporting.
    • Maintain a visual record of site conditions and progress through organized photo documentation.
  • Construction Phase
    • Build and maintain a collaborative relationship with the contractor and field teams.
    • Stay actively engaged in daily operations, ensuring safety and quality are upheld.
    • Understand and enforce project specifications and drawings to minimize rework and associated risks.
    • Monitor and manage the construction schedule using internal and contractor tools.
    • Track progress, approve CSU entries, and maintain accurate project tracking documentation.
    • Oversee environmental compliance and ensure all work aligns with SWPPP and other constraints.
    • Remain involved in outage and crossing coordination; do not delegate this completely to the contractor.
    • Champion a culture of accountability, safety, and performance across all stakeholders.
  • Reporting and Communication
    • Collect and verify all field data independently; do not rely solely on contractor reports.
    • Ensure accuracy and completeness in all reports submitted to project leadership.
    • Coordinate with your team to gather inputs for weekly reporting.
    • Maintain documentation that may be used in change order negotiations or dispute resolution.
    • Communicate with the Project Manager, providing context when requesting support.
    • Submit all reports and trackers by Friday, 5:00 PM project time.
  • Oversight of Project Resources
    • Leverage environmental specialists for audits and compliance support.
    • Ensure contractor accountability; route all interactions through the CM.
    • Coordinate material delivery schedules and resolve logistics issues.
    • Work with vendors to expedite shipments and locate missing materials.
    • Engage safety professionals to enhance site safety culture and address non-compliance.
    • Consult SMEs across disciplines to resolve technical challenges.
    • Collaborate with land agents for planning, landowner relations, and agreement interpretation; ensure contractor communication with land agents is routed through the CM.
