Construction Manager

Description

We are an environmental construction company dedicated to providing excellence at every level. The Construction Manager will supervise, mentor, instruct, and assist both skilled and unskilled team members. The role reports to the Project Manager (PM) and Operations Manager (OM) and requires leadership in project scheduling, budgeting, safety, and subcontractor management.

Responsibilities
  • Exhibit a positive attitude and behaviors at all times, promoting teamwork and supporting project/company goals.
  • Communicate lessons learned to the PM/OM and mentor staff, fostering a safety, teamwork, initiative, and growth environment.
  • Manage site personnel; act as a resource for the field team, handling trouble‑shooting and ensuring clear communication among owner representatives, PM, and field construction staff.
  • Mentor, instruct, and coach team members in the safe operation and use of equipment and tools.
  • Supervise and manage the work of subcontractors.
Health and Safety
  • Lead and advocate for Health & Safety; understand program documents; recommend policies and procedures; train staff and enforce compliance.
  • Perform field site inspections per protocol and report findings to PM.
  • Enforce compliance with all Health and Safety Plans, ensuring company policies and programs are followed without exception.
Construction
  • Become familiar with project construction drawings, specifications, work plans, schedules, staffing, and scope; discuss concerns with PM/OM.
  • Prepare and lead Plan of the Day (POD), End of the Day (EOD), and progress meetings with staff, clients, subcontractors, and others.
  • Monitor and maintain project schedule and 3‑week look‑ahead.
  • Prepare daily reports, timecards, and equipment inspections/records; ensure time sheets, packing slips, and receipts are submitted weekly.
  • Assist team members, proactively solving potential problems before they arise.
  • Manage subcontractors and vendors; oversee construction material orders and deliveries.
  • Maintain tools and equipment; re‑stock missing or damaged tools; secure tools, equipment, and supplies at the end of each shift; coordinate equipment repairs with vendors or shop.
Qualifications
  • 8+ years of construction experience in a supervisory role with 4+ reports.
  • 3 years of experience in the environmental remediation industry preferred.
  • Familiarity with trades such as earthwork, concrete, pipe fitting, hoisting, rigging, heavy equipment, pumps, lasers, grading, sheet piling, pugmill, soil stabilization, water treatment, demolition, and related tasks.
  • Computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Must pass required pre‑employment and annual medical surveillance physical examinations for clearance to work on hazardous waste sites.
  • Ability to perform physical exertion for 8–12 hour shifts (lifting, pushing, pulling, stair or ladder climbing).
Certification & Licensing
  • Certified Construction Manager (CCM) or Project Management Professional (PMP) – a plus.
  • 40‑hour OSHA HAZWOPER training and current 8‑hour refresher – a plus.
  • 30‑hour OSHA Supervisor training – a plus.
  • CPR/First Aid – a plus.
  • TWIC/MSHA – a plus.
Skills & Aptitudes
  • Self‑starter with an outgoing personality.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills.
  • Ability to take direction and assess situations independently.
  • Strong communication and organizational skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and stay organized while doing so.
Travel
  • Field‑based position requiring travel to job sites nationwide for extended periods (2–3 weeks per rotation). Travel required >75% of the time.
  • Transportation, lodging, and per diems are provided by the company per project requirements.
