Job description

RK&K is seeking a Construction Manager to join our Construction Engineering and Inspection (CEI) team in Virginia Beach, VA. As a Construction Manager on RK&K's CEI team, you will manage complex highway/bridge construction projects and mentor, grow, and manage our construction inspection teams.

Essential Functions
  1. Manage, build, and develop construction inspection teams.
  2. Manage assigned project elements as an owner's representative to ensure contract compliance for roadway, structure, and bridge construction projects.
  3. Oversee project personnel, inspections, materials quality control, and quality assurance testing on behalf of the owner.
  4. Serve as a communication liaison among field staff, contractors, design teams, federal and state agencies, and citizens.
  5. Determine inspection staffing needs, supervise staff, research and interpret contract requirements, provide technical guidance, and ensure work quality.
  6. Update and track financial information, including cost projections, and make recommendations regarding contractor payments. Prepare documentation related to project change orders and conduct entitlement determinations.
  7. Monitor project schedule and advise the owner accordingly.
  8. Conduct project meetings, including preconstruction, utility coordination, progress, and pre-activity meetings.
  9. Prepare project management correspondence and review staff recommendations.
  10. Participate in preconstruction services such as scoping, utility conflicts, and constructability reviews.
  11. Manage the project close-out process, including as-builts, final quantities, and final acceptance.
  12. Focus on key project elements: Safety & Environmental, Quality, Schedule, and Cost.
  13. Build and maintain relationships with clients.
