Construction Manager – Utility-Scale Solar (with BESS and Transmission)
Location: Nationwide (Projects are mostly across the North Eastern States of the USA)
Base pay range: $140,000 – $155,000 per year
Samuel Knight Energy is recruiting for experienced Construction Managers to lead major utility-scale solar and storage projects across the United States.
Key Responsibilities
- Serve as the primary on-site representative of the Owner across utility-scale solar and BESS projects.
- Oversee site work including clearing, civil construction, tracker and module installation, BESS units, MV collection systems, substations, and potential transmission tie-ins (115–500kV).
- Coordinate daily activities of EPCs, subcontractors, and vendors; ensure compliance with design documents and safety standards.
- Maintain active QA/QC management and documentation, inspecting work against plans and reporting deviations.
- Manage logistics, scheduling, and progress tracking to ensure milestone completion.
- Act as a liaison to landowners, AHJs, and local stakeholders throughout construction.
- Review change orders, assist with budget tracking, and contribute to cost control.
- Participate in equipment/material receipt, inventory, and site documentation.
- Relocate to project sites (assignments typically 6–12 months, nationwide).
Required Experience
- 5+ years of on-site construction leadership experience, ideally 8–10+ years.
- Must have utility-scale solar project experience (50MW+).
- Strong knowledge of civil, structural, and electrical scopes in solar construction.
- Familiarity with high-voltage systems and BESS is strongly preferred.
- Proven ability to manage union or open-shop contractors.
- Excellent communication, documentation, and conflict resolution skills.
- Proficient in MS Office, construction document platforms (SharePoint, Dropbox), and project controls.
- OSHA 30 and a valid driver’s license required.
Preferred Experience
- Experience building and commissioning BESS and HV transmission (115kV–500kV).
- Prior background as Superintendent, Construction Manager, or Owner’s Rep.
- Wind energy construction experience a plus.
