Job summary

Spencer Ogden is seeking an experienced Construction Manager to oversee utility-scale Battery Energy Storage System projects from preconstruction through turnover. You will manage EPC contractors, schedule, budgets, safety, and quality to ensure on-time delivery.

Responsibilities

• Oversee day-to-day construction operations for utility-scale BESS projects.
• Manage EPC contractors, subcontractors, vendors, field personnel, and equipment logistics.
• Develop, monitor, and control project schedules, budgets, and milestones.
• Coordinate procurement, material deliveries, workforce planning, and sequencing.
• Review drawings, specs, contracts, and project scopes.
• Support preconstruction activities including RFPs, bid evaluations, estimating, and constructability reviews.
• Coordinate with utilities, engineering teams, inspectors, and authorities having jurisdiction.
• Ensure compliance with electrical codes, safety regulations, and quality standards.
• Identify and resolve construction challenges, schedule delays, and project risks.
• Oversee commissioning, testing, punch-list, closeout, and turnover.

Position Overview

An established renewable energy developer and EPC company is seeking an experienced Construction Manager to oversee the execution of utility-scale Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) projects.

This position will lead projects from preconstruction through construction, commissioning, and final turnover, ensuring successful delivery within established budgets, schedules, quality standards, and safety requirements.

Key Responsibilities

• Oversee day-to-day construction operations for utility-scale BESS projects.
• Manage EPC contractors, subcontractors, vendors, field personnel, and equipment logistics.
• Develop, maintain, and monitor project schedules, budgets, and construction milestones.
• Coordinate procurement, material deliveries, workforce planning, and construction sequencing.
• Review engineering drawings, technical specifications, construction contracts, and project scopes.
• Support preconstruction activities, including RFPs, bid evaluations, estimating, takeoffs, and constructability reviews.
• Coordinate with utilities, engineering teams, inspectors, and authorities having jurisdiction.
• Ensure compliance with applicable electrical codes, safety regulations, and quality standards.
• Identify and resolve construction challenges, schedule delays, and project risks.
• Oversee commissioning, testing, punch-list completion, project closeout, and turnover.
• Provide regular progress reports to internal leadership and project stakeholders.

Required Qualifications

• Minimum 5 years of construction management experience within renewable energy, electrical infrastructure, utility, or EPC projects.
• Experience managing utility-scale renewable energy or large electrical infrastructure construction projects.
• Strong understanding of electrical construction, medium-voltage systems, and utility interconnection.
• Demonstrated experience managing contractors, subcontractors, vendors, schedules, and budgets.
• Experience supporting projects from preconstruction through commissioning.
• Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving abilities.
• Ability to manage multiple project priorities and coordinate cross-functional teams.
• Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Electrical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with substations, transformers, switchgear, inverters, and other electrical infrastructure.
• Familiarity with SCADA, DERMS, and BESS integration systems.
• Knowledge of NEC, NFPA, IEEE, UL, and applicable utility standards.
• Experience with Procore, Microsoft Project, or comparable project management software.
• OSHA or relevant construction management certifications.
