Job summary

Johnson, Mirmiran & Thompson is seeking a Construction Manager to join our Kentucky operations in Lexington. The role supports KY CEI Lead and Field Supervisor, overseeing inspection staff and building a robust CEI program for multiple clients and infrastructure types.

The ideal candidate will serve as Resident Engineer, lead inspectors, and manage relationships with KYTC and local agencies while ensuring compliance with plans, specs, safety, and environmental requirements.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or closely related field.
• KY Professional Engineer (PE) license or ability to obtain within 6 months.
• 15+ years of experience in CM/CI or engineering field.
• Experience with roadway construction techniques, reading plans, procedures, methods, equipment and materials.
• Supervisory experience in construction management/inspection situations.

Responsibilities

• Build and maintain excellent relationships with clients.
• Manage field technicians.
• Coordinate and supervise project inspection activities to observe contractor compliance with plans and standards.
• Assign, schedule and maintain subordinate inspection staff across all project phases.
• Review and maintain project documentation detailing progress, activities and materials; ensure environmental permitting conditions and safety policies are met.
• Prepare, review and submit inspection reports, work authorizations, orders and estimates.
• Track project progress and advise on overruns and critical issues.
• Attend pre-bid/pre-construction/management meetings; assist client with change orders and updates.
• Interact with the public, government agencies, contractors, sub-contractors and others to respond to inquiries.

JMT's is seeking a Construction Manager to join our Kentucky operations. Our primary clients are the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) and other Local Government agencies throughout Kentucky. The successful candidate will assist our KY CEI Lead and our KY Construction Field Supervisor to manage current staff and help build a robust and sustainable CEI program across other clients and infrastructure types. In addition, the ideal candidate will serve as Resident Engineer and lead a crew of inspectors performing oversight for various types of infrastructure improvements.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

• Build and maintain excellent relationships with clients.


• Manage field technicians.


• Coordinate and supervise project inspection activities to observe and document contractor compliance of plans, contract documents, specifications and standards.


• Assign, schedule and maintain subordinate inspection staff throughout all phases of the project.


• Review and maintain all pertinent project documentation and ensure that it accurately details construction progress, activities and materials, meets environmental permitting conditions, comply with safety policies and programs, and monitors EEO and DBE progress and performance.


• Prepare, review and submit project inspection reports, work authorizations, work orders and estimates.


• Track project progress and advises parties of possible overruns, and critical project issues.


• Attend pre-bid, pre-construction and/or management level meetings throughout the course of the project, assist the client with change orders, claim defense, and provide updates to the client construction progress and issues.


• Interact with the general public, government agencies, contractors, sub-contractors, and other internal and external parties to respond to inquiries.


• Work on behalf of the Client to draft project correspondence, facilitate project meetings, and resolve construction related field issues.

Required Skills

• Strong Computer proficiency (Excel, Word, etc.)


• Active driver's license and reliable motor vehicle history; Must successfully complete and pass JMT's Motor Vehicle screening

Required Experience

• Bachelor of Science Civil Engineering


• KY PE or ability to obtain within 6 mos


• 15+ years of experience working in the CM/CI or engineering field


• Knowledge and experience in roadway construction techniques, reading plans, procedures, methods, equipment and materials


• Supervisory experience in construction management/inspection situations

Qualifications preferred:

• Experience working with local clients


• KYTC Experience (policies and procedures)


• Alternative Delivery Experience (Design Build)


• Proficient in AASHTOWARE SiteManager / SiteManager Materials

Working Conditions

Work is performed in the office and field. Office to field time is approximately 30% to 70% respectively. Ability to extensively perform bending, kneeling, standing, shoveling, and lifting and carrying objects weighing up to 50 lbs as needed. Work may be conducted outside in heat/cold, wet/humid, and dry/arid conditions.
