Job summary

Currie & Brown in Chicago is seeking a Construction Manager to lead day-to-day activities on a major hyperscale data center program. You will coordinate across civil, structural, architectural, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and mission-critical utility systems, reporting to the construction leadership.

The role is ideal for engineers or seasoned field professionals ready to move into leadership, with exposure to CUP, cooling water systems, and large-scale project delivery.

Qualifications

  • 7–10 years of experience in construction, engineering, project engineering, field engineering, or project management.
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil/Mechanical/Electrical Engineering, Construction Management, Architecture, or related discipline.
  • Experience supporting large commercial, industrial, manufacturing, mission-critical, semiconductor, or hyperscale data center projects.
  • Exposure to mechanical utility infrastructure, CUP, or large process utility systems is highly preferred.
  • Strong understanding of construction sequencing, field execution, and contractor coordination.
  • Experience reading and interpreting construction drawings and specifications.
  • Knowledge of Procore, Primavera P6, BIM 360, Autodesk Construction Cloud, Microsoft Project is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Support day-to-day construction management activities across a large hyperscale data center campus.
  • Coordinate field activities between owners, contractors, consultants, engineers, and trade partners.
  • Conduct site walks to monitor progress, quality, safety, and productivity.
  • Assist in resolving RFIs, constructability challenges, and coordination conflicts.
  • Review drawings, specifications, and submittals to ensure work aligns with project requirements.
  • Coordinate construction activities across civil, structural, architectural, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and mission-critical utility systems.
  • Support installation and coordination of CUP, cooling water systems, and other mechanical infrastructure.
  • Monitor contractor performance, schedules, quality, and deliverables.
  • Participate in coordination meetings with engineering, construction, commissioning, and client teams.
  • Track project risks and assist with mitigation strategies.
  • Support commissioning, startup, turnover, and closeout activities.
  • Prepare project reports and communicate progress to leadership.
  • Promote safety, quality, collaboration, and continuous improvement.

About the Role:

Currie & Brown is seeking a Construction Manager to support a major hyperscale data center program in Chicago, Illinois.

This is an exciting opportunity for an Engineer, Project Engineer, Field Engineer, Assistant Construction Manager, Assistant Project Manager, or Construction Engineer looking to take the next step into a construction leadership role. Working alongside experienced construction leaders, you'll gain exposure to all aspects of project execution while coordinating activities across civil, structural, architectural, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and mission-critical utility systems.

The ideal candidate has a strong engineering or construction background and is eager to transition into a broader leadership role overseeing field execution, contractor coordination, schedule, quality, and overall project delivery. Experience with central utility plants (CUP), chilled water, condenser water, cooling water systems, cooling towers, heat exchangers, and other critical mechanical infrastructure is highly desirable.

  • Track project risks and assist with developing mitigation strategies.
  • Support commissioning, startup, turnover, and project closeout activities.
  • Prepare project reports and communicate progress to construction leadership.
  • Promote a culture of safety, quality, collaboration, and continuous improvement.

  • Experience working with owners, general contractors, specialty contractors, and multidisciplinary project teams.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications.
  • Strong communication, leadership, organization, and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience with Procore, Primavera P6, BIM 360, Autodesk Construction Cloud, Microsoft Project, or similar construction management software is preferred.
  • Data center or mission-critical construction experience is preferred.
  • OSHA 30 certification is a plus.
