Job summary

Armstrong Group is seeking an entry-level Construction Lineman 1 to join our field crew. The role involves building aerial and buried coax, copper, and fiber optic lines, and requires overnight travel with 4x10 hr shifts (M-Th). You will climb poles, operate equipment, and work outdoors according to Armstrong practices.

The position offers immediate benefits, 25 days of PTO, and opportunities to obtain a Class A CDL and further career development.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED is required.
  • DOT medical card (can be obtained after offer).
  • Overnight travel required.
  • Positive attitude and strong work ethic.
  • Ability to lift 75 lbs and perform labor-intensive tasks.
  • Ability to read and interpret prints; follow safety policies.

Responsibilities

  • Climb poles and ladders safely using gaffs; work aloft.
  • Operate bucket trucks, forklifts, backhoes/trenchers and other equipment.
  • Read network design prints and apply Armstrong construction practices.
  • Maintain daily log sheets and inventory paperwork.
  • Keep vehicles and machines maintained to Armstrong standards.
  • Work outdoors in various weather conditions; comply with safety policies.
  • Perform other assigned tasks as needed.

Construction Lineman 1 Position Summary

Shift: 4x10 hr shifts, M-Th (overnight travel required) This is an entry level position where the successful candidate must have the ability to work both independently and as part of a team. The candidate will work with the crew on the construction of both aerial and buried coax, copper, and fiber optic cables, according to company construction practices and procedures.

Responsibilities:
  • Competent pole and ladder climbing skills
  • Works aloft utilizing climbing gaffs, ladders, and mechanical lifts
  • Operates company vehicles and equipment including bucket trucks, fork lifts, backhoes/trenchers, and other machines
  • Works outdoors in the elements
  • Reads network design prints
  • Accurately maintains daily log sheet and inventory paperwork
  • Knowledge of NESC construction guidelines and Armstrong construction practices
  • Follows all Armstrong safety policies
  • Maintains vehicles and machines to Armstrong standards
  • Other assigned tasks
Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or equivalent (GED)
  • Must possess a positive attitude, a strong work-ethic, and a desire to learn
  • DOT medical card (can get one after receiving an offer)
  • Overnight travel requiredPhysical capabilities including climbing, lifting, and carrying a minimum of 75 lbs.
  • Must maintain physical fitness to meet weight limit requirements for ladders and lifts and be able to meet the demands of a labor-intensive job
  • Must be able to take direction verbally and written and be able to work rapidly under time pressure
  • Demonstrated ability to make sound judgments and ethical decisions
  • Available to work after business hours as required, i.e. storm damage
  • Regular, punctual, and consistent attendance
  • Can be obtained after hire: Commercial driver's license with appropriate endorsements, fork lift certification, flagging certification, and pole climbing certification
