Job summary

Direct Communications in Pocatello, ID is seeking a Construction Laborer to join our fiber broadband crews. This role requires on-site work, a strong work ethic, and a proactive, results-driven attitude to manage underground utility projects to completion.

You will operate heavy machinery, assist in trenching and installation, travel 1-2 weeks for out-of-town assignments, and uphold safety standards while delivering rock-solid connections for rural communities.

Qualifications

  • Hands-on experience with heavy equipment operation on construction sites.
  • Experience with underground utility work and broadband construction is preferred.
  • High school diploma or equivalent and a valid driver’s license are required.

Responsibilities

  • Deploy fiber infrastructure through underground trenching and aerial deployments.
  • Operate heavy machinery such as excavators, skid steers, drop plows, and directional drills.
  • Collaborate with crew to troubleshoot infrastructure issues and ensure solid connections.
  • Manage equipment, ensuring tools and trailers are safely towed and maintained.

The Role: Expert Leadership in the Field

We are looking for a high-caliber Construction Laborer to join our fiber broadband crews in Pocatello and surrounding areas. This isn't just a "construction job"-it's a role for a proactive individual who thrives on‑site, possesses a "whatever it takes" attitude, and has the technical grit to manage complex underground utility projects to completion.

Qualifications & Expertise
  • Industry Knowledge: Hands‑on experience in heavy equipment operation is required, underground utility work, and broadband construction such as installation/trenching and operating heavy machinery.
  • Safety Oversight: Proven ability to commit to safety practices, keeping your colleagues and others safe on the job site.
  • Technical Proficiency: Work with teams on fiber optic network maintenance, DLC systems, fiber hubs, and power installations.
  • The "Ideal" Professional: You are someone who has a strong work ethic and always looking for the next task without being asked. You understand how your actions affect your team members and the public, communicate clearly and treat everyone with respect. You are a coachable person.
  • Credentials: High school diploma or equivalent; valid driver's license with a clean record is required. CDL required, ability to lift 50+ pounds and willingness to travel 1-2 weeks for out‑of‑town assignments.
Key Responsibilities
  • Deploy Fiber Infrastructure: Assist in the installation of fiber optic cables through both underground trenching and aerial deployments
  • Operate Heavy Machinery: Master the use of excavators, skid steers, drop plows, and directional drills to get the job done right
  • Collaborate & Solve: Work seamlessly with your crew to troubleshoot infrastructure issues and ensure every connection is rock‑solid
  • Manage Equipment: Take pride in your tools and trailers, ensuring they are safely towed, maintained, and ready for action

Schedule & Compensation
  • Salary: $20-25 per hour.
  • Hours: Monday - Friday, 40 hours/week, with the flexibility to work 35 hours weekly upon approval to maintain work/life balance.
  • Travel: Frequent daily travel across our geographic footprint and overtime for emergency repairs is required.
