Job summary

CRH APAC-Kansas, Inc., Shears Construction, is seeking a Construction Laborer in Kansas. You will support paving and construction tasks, follow safety protocols, and assist crews with manual and equipment duties on outdoor job sites. Eligible candidates are 18+, with a high school diploma or GED preferred, and able to pass pre-employment screening. Travel and non-standard hours may be required.

Responsibilities

• Champion a safe work environment by following all safety policies and protocols.
• Follow OSHA and MSHA regulations for safe, compliant job execution and report issues.
• Support crews with shoveling, raking, wheelbarrow use, and directing trucks.
• Communicate with equipment operators using hand signals for alignment.
• Complete daily tasks as directed by Foreman and adapt to project demands.
• Operate small power tools like jackhammers when needed.
• Dig, spread, and level construction materials for optimal results.
• Move and handle materials, tools, and supplies efficiently.
• Install, relocate, and remove traffic control devices to keep zones safe.
• Maintain attendance and take on additional responsibilities as required.

What You'll Do

• Champion a safe work environment by rigorously following all safety policies, procedures, and protocols—your safety and that of your team is our top priority.
• Follow all companies, OSHA, and MSHA regulations for safe and compliant job execution, and promptly report any issues to leadership or safety personnel.
• Support the construction and paving crews with hands‑on tasks such as shoveling, raking, operating a wheelbarrow, and directing trucks for safe and precise operations.
• Communicate with equipment operators to ensure seamless movement and alignment of materials using hand signals and tools.
• Execute daily tasks as directed by your Foreman, adapting quickly to the ever‑changing demands of the project.
• Operate small power tools (e.g., jackhammers) as needed, improving your technical skill set on the job.
• Dig, spread, and level construction materials for optimal project results.
• Move and handle materials, tools, and supplies with care and efficiency.
• Install, relocate, and remove traffic control devices such as signs, barricades, and cones to keep work zones safe.
• Maintain consistent and reliable attendance—your presence makes a difference.
• Take on additional responsibilities as assigned—no two days are ever the same.

What You Bring

• High school diploma or GED preferred.
• Previous experience in construction is a plus but not required—your attitude and work ethic matter most.
• At least 18 years of age.
• Ability to pass a pre‑employment physical, drug screening, and background check.
• Commitment to following all safety requirements, procedures, and wearing personal protective equipment (PPE) as needed—your health and safety come first.
• Flexibility to travel, work nights, weekends, and outside of your local area when the job requires it.
• Knowledge of construction materials, methods, and tools is helpful; willingness to learn is essential.
• Ability to read, write, and perform basic math.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.

Physical & Work Environment Requirements

• Frequently required to climb, balance, and perform tasks involving physical agility.
• Regularly sit, climb, and use hand signals or equipment; occasionally stand, walk, crawl, kneel, bend, stoop, crouch, or reach above shoulder height.
• Lift and move objects weighing up to 25-50 lbs as needed.
• Work primarily outdoors, often in extreme weather and environmental conditions.
• Comfortable working in all weather conditions; exposed to jobsite hazards such as moving machinery, high places, airborne particles, and loud environments.
• Must have specific vision abilities, including close, distance, color, peripheral, and depth perception, to operate equipment safely.
