About the Company

Our client is a U.S.-based construction company specializing in the development of community parks, amenity centers, recreational spaces, monuments, and other outdoor environments for residential developers and communities.

The company works closely with project managers, construction managers, landscape architects, and other industry partners to deliver high-quality projects with a strong focus on execution, cost control, and operational excellence.

As the organization continues to manage a growing portfolio of active construction projects, it is strengthening its financial and project accounting capabilities to provide greater visibility into project performance and costs.

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Job Cost Accountant to own the accuracy and integrity of job cost data across an active portfolio of construction projects.

This role is dedicated to project financial performance and will be responsible for running and reviewing job cost reports, maintaining accurate cost coding, reconciling project financial data between Sage 100 and Procore, managing the monthly Work in Progress (WIP) schedule, and partnering directly with Project Managers and Construction Managers.

This is not a passive reporting role. The Job Cost Accountant will be embedded with project teams and serve as a financial partner to operations, helping ensure that costs are accurately captured, forecasts remain current, and project leadership has reliable financial information for decision-making.

Key Responsibilities
Job Cost Reporting & Accuracy
  • Run, review, and distribute weekly and monthly job cost reports from Sage 100 for all active projects.

  • Reconcile Procore commitments, change orders, and invoicing against Sage 100 job cost detail.

  • Identify financial variances and work with project teams to resolve discrepancies at the source.

  • Review cost coding for AP invoices, subcontractor billings, labor, and equipment charges before they close to the job.

  • Identify misallocated expenses and coordinate corrections with the appropriate project stakeholders.

  • Maintain an accurate cost code structure in collaboration with finance and project leadership.

  • Ensure job cost information rolls up accurately for financial reporting, project analysis, and estimating feedback.

Project Management & Construction Management Partnership
  • Conduct formal monthly job cost reviews with Project Managers and Construction Managers.

  • Review budget vs. actual costs, committed costs, job cost detail, and forecast-to-complete estimates.

  • Partner with project teams to identify and correct misallocated expenses.

  • Serve as a primary finance resource for questions related to job costs, cost code selection, and committed cost reconciliation.

  • Escalate recurring coding or accountability issues to finance and project leadership when appropriate.

WIP & Percentage of Completion
  • Own the monthly WIP schedule across all active projects.

  • Maintain accurate calculations for:

    • Cost to date

    • Estimated cost at completion

    • Percentage complete

    • Earned revenue

    • Over/under billings

  • Partner with Project Managers to validate monthly cost-to-complete estimates.

  • Identify and challenge outdated or unsupported project forecasts.

  • Deliver a clean, accurate, and defensible WIP package as part of the monthly financial close process.

Specialized Cost Tracking
  • Partner with project leadership to capture the true cost of specialized construction activities when deeper cost analysis is required.

  • Establish tracking approaches before activities begin, including appropriate cost codes, labor tracking, equipment capture, and reporting structure.

  • Ensure cost information is collected accurately in real time rather than reconstructed after project activities are completed.

  • Prepare actual-cost reporting that can support future estimating, purchasing, project planning, and strategic decision-making.

Systems, Reporting & Documentation
  • Work extensively in Sage 100 and Procore as the primary systems for project cost accounting.

  • Maintain accurate and consistent financial data across both systems.

  • Build and maintain Excel reporting workbooks summarizing job cost, WIP, committed cost, and project financial performance.

  • Use AI-enabled tools and services, where appropriate, to improve reporting, reconciliation, and document review processes.

  • Maintain organized documentation and strong data hygiene across project accounting workflows.

Required Qualifications
  • 3-6 years of job cost accounting experience with a general contractor, specialty contractor, or construction company.

  • Construction industry accounting experience is required.

  • Hands-on experience with construction job costing and project financial reporting.

  • Working proficiency with Sage 100 Contractor or Sage 100 construction job cost modules.

  • Working proficiency with Procore, including commitments, change orders, and invoicing.

  • Experience preparing and maintaining WIP schedules and percentage-of-completion calculations.

  • Strong understanding of cost codes, committed costs, project budgets, actual costs, and cost-to-complete forecasting.

  • Strong Microsoft Excel skills, including pivot tables, lookup functions, reconciliations, and reporting workbooks.

  • Experience reconciling financial information across accounting and project management systems.

  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.

  • Ability to identify discrepancies, investigate root causes, and coordinate corrections with operational teams.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in English.

  • Ability to work effectively with U.S.-based finance, project management, and construction teams in a fully remote environment.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Previous experience supporting multiple active construction projects simultaneously.

  • Experience working directly with Project Managers and Construction Managers on monthly financial reviews.

  • Knowledge of construction revenue recognition and percentage-of-completion accounting.

  • Experience with AP coding, subcontractor billing, change orders, commitments, and construction cost controls.

  • Experience using AI or automation tools to improve accounting, reconciliation, or reporting workflows.

What Success Looks Like
