Job summary

CMS Corporation is seeking interns in Construction Management, Architecture, Mechanical and Civil Engineering to gain hands-on experience in project setup, documentation, and coordination for a range of commercial and federal projects.

The role involves supporting submittal tracking, budgeting, and closeout activities, while collaborating with PMs, QC, and proposal teams. This internship offers exposure to design-build processes within a leading construction contractor.

Qualifications

• Current enrollment in a relevant bachelor’s degree program.
• Interest in construction management, architecture, mechanical or civil engineering.
• U.S. citizenship is required.

Responsibilities

• Create project startup check list, schedule kick off meeting, and follow up on deliverables.
• Set up file structure on company system for project use.
• Set up and maintain project tracking system.
• Assist in creating, editing, and tracking of all project related documentation.
• Review specifications to maintain submittal register and ensure required submittals are appropriate.
• Coordinate pre-construction submittals such as QC plan, Accident Prevention Plan, Demolition Plan, Environmental Plan.
• Generate and track all project submittal documents and send to QCM for approval.
• Assist project team with drafting subcontracts for PM review.
• Follow up with vendors and subcontractors on deliverables per contract specifications.
• Enter budgets into accounting program and make approved changes.
• Create and track RFIs and process client change orders.
• Assist in project closeout documents and ensure contract compliance.
• Prepare information for project summary with Proposal team.

Our scope of services encompasses new construction, renovations, fueling systems, and energy and sustainability for a wide range of commercial and federal government clients. As a prime contractor, we have the ability to execute a full range of construction disciplines. In addition, our mechanical capability enables us to self-perform the most technically challenging mechanical, fuels and energy work.

We are looking for interns in the Construction Management, Architectural, Mechanical and Civil Engineering fields.

Requirements

You will gain experience with the following:

• Create project startup check list, schedule kick off meeting, and follow up on deliverables
• Setup file structure on company system for project use
• Setup and maintain project tracking system
• Assist in creating, editing, and tracking of all project related documentation
• Review specifications to create, edit, and maintain submittal register to ensure submittal requirements are followed and the submittals required are appropriate for the project; work with the Project Manager or Quality Control Manager to clarify with the client applicable project submittals
• Create and/or coordinate all pre-construction submittals to include, but not limited to: Contractor Quality Control Plan- Accident Prevention Plan Demolition Plan, Environmental Protection Plan (may include Storm Water Pollution Prevention Plan), Waste Management Plan
• Generate and track all project submittal documents (Designer of Record and/or Client) and send to QCM for approval (i.e. Eng 4025 forms, etc.)
• Assist project team with documentation as needed Assist in drafting subcontract(s) for PM review
• Follow up with material/equipment vendors and subcontractors on project deliverables ensuring compliance with contract specifications; including but not limited to submittal tracking, product data and project closeout documents
• Assist in entering budgets into accounting program and changes as approved by the Accounting Department
• Create and track RFI’s
• Process and track Client change orders
• Assist in generating project closeout documents and ensuring contract requirement compliance
• Assist in compiling information for the project summary upon completion of project with the Proposal team
• Assist in generating the DD1354 forms (transfer of ownership) for client review and approval, prior to turning over the project
• Successful applicant must be a U.S. Citizen
• Perform other duties as assigned
