Job summary

State of Missouri's Maryville Engineering Project Office is seeking an engineering intern to coordinate and perform construction inspections, ensuring contractor work complies with contracts, specifications and engineering principles.

You will assist with measurements, prepare final plans and change orders, maintain required documentation, and support field surveying operations as a party chief on routine layouts and staking.

Qualifications

  • Enrolled in ABET-accredited engineering bachelor’s or post-bachelor’s degree program full time (12+ credit hours).
  • 30 credit hours completed toward current degree program. Degree transcript required to apply.
  • Maintain GPA of at least 2.0 out of 4.0, or equivalent.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and perform construction inspections ensuring contractor compliance with contracts, specifications, and engineering principles.
  • Inspect routine items including paving, grading, bridges, culverts, utility adjustments, signing, and traffic signals.
  • Prepare final plans, change orders, contractor payment estimates, and engineering costs.
  • Maintain construction documentation, records, and files; prepare and report progress and issues to supervisor.
  • Provide field checks for surveying operations; act as party chief on routine layout and staking; assist on large projects.
  • Perform lead worker responsibilities, including instruction, assigning tasks, and coaching staff.
  • Perform other responsibilities as required.

  • Coordinates and performs construction inspections verifying that contractors' activities are in compliance with contracts, specifications, and engineering principles.
  • Performs duties of inspector in charge of routine construction items, such as asphaltic or portland cement concrete plants, asphaltic or concrete paving, including grading and base, small bridges, concrete box and pipe culverts; inspects general or special items, such as utility adjustments, signing, traffic signals and lighting.
  • Performs measurements, computations, or other work in preparing final plans, change orders, contractor payment estimates, and engineering costs.
  • Maintains required construction documentation, records and files; prepares progress and other reports, keeps supervisor fully informed as to activities or unusual conditions on the job.
  • Provides field checks for contractor surveying operations; serves as party chief on routine layout and staking; serves as instrument operator on staking of large bridges, other critical structures, or complex interchanges.
  • Performs lead worker responsibilities, which may include providing general instruction, assigning and reviewing work, coaching and training, providing guidance and instruction in the proper and most efficient methods of accomplishing tasks, and providing input to the direct supervisor on staffing decisions and performance management.
  • Performs other responsibilities as required or assigned.

  • 30 credit hours completed/accepted toward current degree program. High school or other postsecondary program credits must be shown to be accepted by the current program through a degree transcript to apply.
  • Possess and maintain an overall GPA of at least 2.0 out of 4.0, or equivalent.
