CTL Engineering is hiring Inspectors | Construction Services for ODOT (transportation) projects!

We provide civil/site design, land surveying, environmental, geotechnical, construction administration & inspection, accident reconstruction, roofing/building envelope, A/V system design, troubleshooting & installation, transportation design (bridge/roadway), and specialized testing services to the construction industry.

We are looking for Inspectors | Construction Services to play a key role in construction administration, inspection, and testing services for state (ODOT), county, and local clients. You’ll be involved in testing and inspection of various construction projects, primarily in roadway/bridge sectors, but also including water/wastewater, aviation, commercial, and municipal utility/infrastructure sectors. You’ll leverage your expertise in construction inspection and problem-solving skills while collaborating closely with institutions and municipal agencies.

Highlights:

• This role involves primarily fieldwork with some office work.
• You will work independently on broad projects under the direction of a Department Manager.
• Projects are mainly in northeastern Ohio, with frequent travel expected within this region.
• A stipend for personal vehicle use or a company take-home vehicle will be provided, depending on the assignment.
• Experience with ODOT projects is a strong plus.

Responsibilities:

• Monitor and enforce quality standards and specifications.
• Read project drawings, specifications, blueprints, and work on various construction projects.
• Perform construction administration and inspection services for roadway, bridge, municipal utility, or infrastructure projects.
• Ensure contractor compliance with specifications, plans, and proposals.
• Verify quantities and calculations align with bid plans.
• Maintain accurate project records and reports promptly.
• Communicate project status and non-conforming work to contractors or engineers.
• Conduct hazardous material surveys and asbestos abatement monitoring as needed.
• Perform quality control testing on-site, including concrete, soils, masonry, asphalt, aggregate, and reinforcing steel.
• Perform other duties as assigned by project engineers or managers.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• Understanding of engineering, construction, testing, and inspection principles.
• Experience with materials and lab testing.
• Knowledge of quality control testing and compliance standards.
• Familiarity with standard testing and observation methods.
• Ability to manage projects with minimal supervision.
• Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
• Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions.
• Ability to provide independent status updates.
• Client-focused and quality-minded approach.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Strongly preferred: Completion of the ODOT Certified Technician program, or a Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or Construction Management.
• Technical school or community college graduate with an Associate Degree and 2+ years of related experience.
• At least 2 years of relevant experience.
• Familiarity with highway construction specifications and field experience.
• Experience working for a testing company.
• Experience with testing of concrete, asphalt, earthwork, utility construction, and related inspection/testing.
• Certifications such as ACI Grade I, DOT Asphalt Tech, NICET Level II Soils, ICC Special Inspections, or CWI/NDT preferred.
• Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record required.
