Job summary

CTL Engineering, Inc. is hiring Inspectors for Construction Services to support ODOT transportation projects. The position focuses on field work with some office tasks, working independently on broad projects under a Dept.

Manager, with frequent travel in the northeastern Ohio region. The role requires knowledge of engineering and construction standards, quality control experience, and the ability to read drawings and perform inspection and testing.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Monitor and enforce quality standards and specifications.
  • Read project drawings, specifications, blueprints and work on a variety of construction projects.
  • Provide construction administration and inspection services for state, county and local roadway, bridge, and municipal utility projects.
  • Inspect projects to ensure contractor compliance with specifications, plans, and proposals.
  • Verify plan quantities and calculations within bid plans.
  • Prepare and maintain project records and reports.
  • Notify Contractor or Project Engineer with status updates or non-conforming work.
  • Possibly conduct hazardous material surveys and asbestos abatement monitoring.
  • Conduct quality control testing for concrete, soils, masonry, asphalt, aggregate, and reinforcing steel.
  • Notify the Project Engineer with status updates or non-conforming work.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by Project Engineer or Project Manager.

CTL Engineering is hiring Inspectors for Construction Services for ODOT transportation projects. CTL Engineering (www.ctleng.com) is an award‑winning, full‑service consulting engineering firm with 15 locations across OH, IN, WV, KY, NC, SC, and VA and a rich history of 98 years in business. We provide civil/site design, land surveying, environmental, geotechnical, construction administration & inspection, accident reconstruction, roofing/building envelope, A/V system design, troubleshooting & installation, transportation design (bridge/roadway), and specialized testing services to the construction industry.

Highlights
  • This position will include primarily field work with some office work.
  • This position works independently on broad projects under the direction of a Dept. Manager.
  • Projects are typically in the northeastern Ohio region. Frequent travel within this region is expected.
  • A stipend for personal vehicle use or a company take‑home vehicle will be provided, based on the assignment.
  • ODOT project experience is a strong plus.
Responsibilities

  • Conduct quality control testing at project sites, including concrete, soils, masonry, asphalt, aggregate and reinforcing steel.
  • Notify the Project Engineer with status updates or non‑conforming work.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Project Engineer or Project Manager.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Strong plus if you have completed the ODOT Certified Technician program… OR…
  • Has a Bachelor’s degree in either Civil Engineering or Construction Management.
  • Technical school or Community college graduate.
  • Preferred: Associate Degree with 2+ years of additional related work experience.
  • 2+ years of related experience.
  • Familiarity with highway construction specifications and previous field experience.
  • Previous experience working for a testing company.
  • Experience with concrete, asphalt, earthwork, and utility construction engineering services and inspection/testing.
  • Experience with field and laboratory testing of soil, concrete, asphalt, aggregate, masonry, structural steel and fireproofing, etc.
  • Preferred certifications: ACI Grade I, DOT Asphalt Tech, NICET Level II Soils, ICC Special inspections and/or CWI/NDT inspectors.
  • Must have a valid driver license and an acceptable driving record.
