Job summary

CTL Engineering, Inc. is seeking Engineering Technicians and Construction Inspectors to support field inspection and testing for water and wastewater plant projects and water main work across the Ashtabula region.

The role offers mentoring, ongoing training, and growing responsibility within the Construction Administration/Inspection division.

Qualifications

• High school or higher; construction management or civil engineering background preferred.

• ACI Grade I Concrete Testing Technician certification preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

• Perform construction engineering technician and inspection services for W/WW plant projects and water main work.
• Test, inspect, and report on concrete pours, rebar placement, and utility location.
• Inspect projects for compliance with state specs and plans; notify non-conforming work.
• Maintain project records and reports; assist engineers in the field.

We’re hiring Engineering Technicians | Construction Inspectors (primarily W/WW treatment plants and water main projects) – All experience levels!

We provide civil/site design and land surveying, environmental, geotechnical, construction administration & inspection, accident reconstruction, roofing/building envelope, A/V system design, troubleshooting and installation, and specialized testing services to the construction industry.

We are looking for all experience levels of Engineering Technicians | Construction Inspectors who will play a key role in our Construction Administration/Construction Inspection division. Ongoing mentoring and training will be provided, with opportunities for increasing responsibility.

Highlights

• Project types focus primarily on Water/Wastewater plants and water main projects (repairs, installations) in the Ashtabula/northeast Ohio region.
• A company truck can be provided or you can use your personal vehicle and receive a reimbursement.
• The typical schedule is Monday‑Friday – day shift (7am‑5pm). If bad weather affects the timeline, some Saturdays may be needed. Night time work may occur occasionally but we strive to give as much advance notice as possible.

Responsibilities

• Perform construction engineering technician and inspection services involving concrete testing, rebar inspection, and other building materials for W/WW plant construction projects and oversee utility location, digging, and water main installations/connections and repairs for municipal clients.
• Test, inspect, and report on specific aspects of construction works in progress such as concrete pours, rebar placement, utility location, and vertical/horizontal digging.
• Inspect construction projects to ensure contractor compliance with state specifications, plans, and/or proposals.
• Notify the Contractor or Project Engineer of non‑conforming work.
• May be responsible for inspection and sampling of construction materials.
• Perform computations with formulas, plot data, and draw simple curves and graphs.
• Assist Engineers in the field during soil and materials investigations.
• Ensure that job site tests/observations, including quality control, quality assurance, and verifications, are performed in accordance with standard test/observation methods, project specifications, and other contract documents.
• Prepare and maintain project records and reports.

Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities

• Knowledge of engineering, construction, testing and inspection principles is a strong plus.
• Knowledge of materials testing – standard testing and observation methods – is a plus.
• Knowledge and understanding of construction or engineering principles.
• Perform quality control initiatives.
• Perform testing and lab reporting.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Acceptable driving record.
• Perform engineering and construction field‑testing.
• Work in external environmental conditions during difficult weather.
• Work independently and provide status updates.

Minimum Qualifications

• High School, Technical School, Community College, or Bachelor’s (Construction Management or Civil Engineering) graduate.
• New graduates are encouraged to apply.

Certifications

• ACI Grade I Concrete Testing Technician (preferred but not required).

Physical Requirements

• Primary work location is in the field and requires standing for extended periods.
• Must meet ADA, FMLA, and other federal, state, and local mandatory qualifications.
• Must maintain regular, punctual attendance consistent with mandatory standards.
• Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
