Construction Inspector pay range:
$36.36 - $51.19 Hourly
$75,628.80 - $106,475.20 Annually Non-Exempt
Senior Construction Inspector pay range:
$38.19 - $53.78 Hourly
$79,435.20 - $111,862.40 Annually

A 2% base salary increase is scheduled to become effective with the first full pay period that begins after July 1, 2025.
The Senior Construction Inspector position is approved for FY25/26 and may start after July 1, 2025.

OUR POSITION
The Construction Inspector is responsible for ensuring public works and capital projects are constructed in compliance with plans, specifications, and regulatory requirements. Under general supervision, this position conducts detailed inspections of construction sites, evaluates materials and workmanship, monitors contractor compliance, and prepares comprehensive project reports. As a liaison between the City, contractors, engineers, and property owners, the Construction Inspector plays a critical role in maintaining quality standards, addressing issues that arise, and ensuring the projects meet safety and performance standards. This position requires initiative, independent judgment, and the ability to handle complex situations with tact and professionalism.

IDEAL CANDIDATE
The ideal candidate will have extensive technical knowledge of construction methods, materials, and regulations, including federal, state, and local laws. They will be skilled at conducting detailed inspections, ensuring compliance with standards, and making sound recommendations. Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills are essential for drafting reports, engaging with stakeholders, and addressing dynamic field conditions. The candidate's expertise and dedication will uphold the highest standards of quality and compliance for the City's projects.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS
The Senior Construction Inspector is the lead-level class, responsible for providing lead work direction and guidance, performing complex inspections, and handling multi-disciplinary projects. Incumbents must possess advanced technical knowledge and experience, and be capable of managing complex inspection duties and supervising staff.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Construction Inspector: Graduation from high school or G.E.D., plus two years of experience in construction inspection or six years of trades experience on large public works projects, or an equivalent combination.
Senior Construction Inspector: Graduation from high school or G.E.D., supplemented by college coursework in civil engineering or related field, plus five years of experience in construction inspection, or an equivalent combination.
