Job summary

HNTB Corporation in San Antonio, TX is seeking an Inspector III to provide daily inspection of contractor activities, ensuring compliance with plans, specifications and contract provisions. This in-person role requires maintaining logs and addressing discrepancies with Field Engineer on site.

Night and weekend work may be required across multiple counties with TxDOT, VIA, and city/county entities. A high school diploma and 3 years of construction experience are required.

This opportunity entails being responsible for providing daily inspection of multiple, routine activities within a given discipline/trade performed by contractor in order to monitor the project’s compliance with plans, specifications, and other contract provisions. Maintains daily logs of inspection work which is assigned and reviews discrepancies or changes with Field Engineer. Work is generally limited to smaller, standard, less complex projects.

This position is for Inspector III in the San Antonio Area.

This position may require you to perform inspection services in the following 12 counties: Atascosa, Bandera, Bexar, Comal, Frio, Guadalupe, Kendall, Kerr, McMullen, Medina, Uvalde, and Wilson.

Work assignments may include work with TxDOT, VIA, City and County entities.

Work for this position does not include remote work.

This position is in-person.

Construction inspection work will include night work and weekend work.

What You'll Do:

• Observes, documents, and verifies work in progress by the construction contractor to ensure compliance with contract documents and plans.
• Confirms procedures are followed and material used conforms to specifications.
• Utilizes engineering inspection practices to perform standard mathematical calculations and measurements of completed work to date.
• Maintains Inspector's daily report of assigned work activities, contactor labor and equipment, quantity of material received and verified.
• Performs on-site material testing and produces as-constructed sketches as required.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

What You'll Need:

• High School Diploma/GED or equivalent and 3 years of construction related experience.
• All required jurisdictional certificates and state requirements.

What You’ll Bring:

• Recognizes and escalates discrepancies or conflicts within documents.
• Interprets and understands schedules to provide feedback.
• Operates relevant testing equipment to assigned duties.
• Understands Microsoft Office Suite and other computer skills at an advanced level.
• Calculates complex pay quantities.
• Identifies, documents, and escalates change conditions.
• Records daily inspection report, tracks work performed, and computes pay item quantities at a basic level with directions from more experienced staff.
• General understanding of plans and specifications.

What We Prefer:

• TxDOT or CEI experience.
• SiteManager experience.
• APCM experience.
• AutoDesk Construction Cloud (ACC) experience.
• ACI and Level 1B certifications.
