What you’ll do:
  1. Coordinate and perform construction inspections to verify contractor compliance with contracts, specifications, and engineering principles.
  2. Perform duties as inspector in charge of routine construction items, including asphaltic or portland cement concrete plants, paving, grading, small bridges, and culverts; inspect utility adjustments, signing, traffic signals, and lighting.
  3. Conduct measurements, computations, and prepare final plans, change orders, payment estimates, and engineering costs.
  4. Maintain construction documentation, records, files, and prepare reports; keep supervisors informed of activities and conditions.
  5. Provide field checks for surveying operations; serve as party chief on routine layout and staking; operate instruments for staking large structures or complex interchanges.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering from an ABET-accredited college or university.
  • ABET accreditation ensures standards for STEM fields; verify accreditation at Home - ABET.
  • Certification to operate nuclear gauges may be required.
  • Complete a work simulation and medical-physical examination successfully.

Qualified candidates will be considered for entry, intermediate, or senior levels based on knowledge, skills, and abilities.

  • Entry salary: $65,335.68
  • Intermediate salary: $70,562.40
  • Senior salary: $76,207.20
Special Working Conditions:
  • Moderate physical activity required.
  • Exposure to hazards, safety risks, and environmental conditions.
  • May operate vehicles for snow plowing and ice control.
  • A postsecondary degree is preferred for engineering knowledge, physics, mathematics, drafting, project management, ethics, and data analysis.
