Position Overview
The Construction Inspector performs inspection activities for the Construction Engineering & Inspection group on transportation projects. The person works directly with the Project Manager(s) and other team members to adequately staff projects.
Responsibilities
- Observe construction work performed by others, ensuring accuracy with plans and specifications.
- Interpret plans, specifications, and contracts for roadway, drainage, and/or structural highway construction.
- Communicate through verbal and written means as needed for job performance.
- Participate in project-level meetings as required.
- Meet with clients as needed.
- Conduct periodic staff meetings with inspectors.
- Document work activities.
- Provide status reports to PM(s) on routine basis.
- Review and mentor the work of other inspectors.
- Perform storm water inspections.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or Equivalent.
- ACI Grade I or NICET Level 1 certification.
- Storm water Inspection Certification.
- 5+ years of experience as an inspector for highway construction.
- Ability to perform work on active job sites safely and proficiently.
- Professional representation of LJA and its clients.
- Valid driver’s license with a clear driving record; DMV check required.
Preferred Skills and Certifications
- 10-hour OSHA training.
- Work Zone Traffic Control certification.
- TDEC Level 1.
- TDOT Asphalt Roadway Inspector.
- TDOT Concrete Field Technician/ACI Grade 1.
Additional Requirements
- Travel may be required.
- Work on uneven ground, requiring walking and standing for long periods, including possible climbing.
- Work in inclement weather conditions.
- Non-standard hours, including some weekends or holidays, may be necessary.
