Job summary

The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey is seeking a Construction Inspector for the Staten Island Bridges Facility. You will verify compliance with contract documents across civil, structural, electrical or mechanical elements, coordinating with facility staff to minimize disruption to operations while advancing projects efficiently.

Responsibilities include daily inspection reporting, drawing reviews, field inspections, change-order documentation, invoice review, and progress meeting

Qualifications

• Bachelor degree in Engineering or Architecture from an accredited college or university.
• Four or more years of experience as an Engineer with principal construction experience.
• Valid driver’s license and ability to pass background checks for security IDs.

Responsibilities

• Write and file daily field inspection reports to track contract work and extras.
• Review construction drawings and contract documents thoroughly.
• Perform field visits and inspections to ensure contractor compliance.
• Identify extra work and prepare estimates and necessary change order docs.
• Assist with review of monthly contractor invoices and payment applications.
• Coordinate inspections with Materials Unit and other Engineering divisions.
• Attend progress meetings and record minutes and memos as directed.
• Ensure contractor compliance with submittals, SARs and RFIs.

About the Role

Reporting to the Resident Engineer or an Assistant Resident Engineer as a Construction Inspector, you will be responsible for various civil, structural, electrical or mechanical elements for verification of compliance with Contract documents. This role also requires coordination of such work with associated facility staff and other stakeholders in a manner to mitigate impacts to ongoing facility operations while advancing work as efficiently as possible to complete construction projects.

Responsibilities

This position will be located at Staten Island Bridges Facility , in Staten Island NY but can be relocated to any other PA Facility within the Port District depending on CMD workload demands. As a Construction Inspector , you will be responsible for the following:

• Writing and filing daily field inspection reports for the purpose of tracking all Contract work and Extra work via various administrative mechanisms as well as any ongoing issues or points of interest deemed relevant by management.
• Review of construction drawings and Contract documents proficiently.
• Make field visits and perform inspections to ensure contractor compliance
• Identifying extra work and preparing associated estimates and other necessary documentation is obtained in order to process change orders and lump sum conversions.
• Assist with review of monthly Contractor invoices and processing of payment applications.
• Assist with coordination of inspections by Materials Unit and other Engineering Department Divisions to maintain effective progress and closeout of work.
• Attend construction progress meetings and record and distribute progress meeting minutes and write memos at the direction of the Sr. Engineer of Construction.
• Ensure contractor compliance with approved Construction Submittals, SAR’s and RFI’s.

Minimum Qualifications

• Must possess a Bachelor Degree in Engineering or Architecture from an accredited college or university.
• Four (4) or more years of experience as an Engineer with principal experience in construction.
• Must have a valid driver’s license.
• Must have completed all probationary periods at time of appointment to position.
• Must be able to be fingerprinted and pass a criminal background check at high level to obtain TWIC, SWAC or SIDA ID.

Desired Qualifications

• Demonstrated knowledge of Construction Management Division (CMD) strategies, processes and procedures especially in a variety of construction types.
• Excellent oral and written communication and presentation skills.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and Trimble (E-Builder).
• Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills and demonstrated experience resolving contractor disputes.

Minimum: $ 73,658 Midpoint: $ 95,742 Maximum: $ 117,832
