Job description

This Opportunity

WSP is seeking a Construction Inspector to join our Construction Management team out of our Columbia, MD office.

Your Impact

Roles and Responsibilities:

  1. The candidate will serve as a Construction Inspector to support our Construction management and Inspection services related to Road and Bridge Projects at SHA District 2 (Caroline, Cecil, Kent, Queen Anne's, and Talbot Counties, MD).
  2. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
  3. Provide daily site inspections of contractors work on highway, bridge, structural steel repairs, welding, painting, electrical, environmental or other complex construction projects to ensure compliance with approved plans, specifications and maintain up-to-date project records.
  4. Conduct routine field tests on construction materials such as slump test, air content test, and compaction tests.
  5. Measure and record material placed for periodic contractor payments.
  6. Prepare daily inspection reports and/or logs that describe number of employees on a job site, amount of work performed, and materials used, weather conditions, accidents on the job site and equipment use.
  7. Work in various weather conditions and terrains and will be available nights and weekends as needed.
  8. Work effectively with others.
  9. Understand and follow instructions.
  10. Measure and record pay items.
  11. Communicate conditions and field conflicts/changes to Owner.
  12. Work closely with other team members, along with personnel from utilities, state, local, and federal agencies.
  13. Demonstrate independent and effective problem solving/decision making.

Who You Are

Minimum Requirements:

  1. High School graduate or possession of a State high school equivalence certificate.
  2. 5 years’ experience in Roadway and Bridge construction.
  3. Experience in field inspection, or construction supervision of civil works projects (earthwork, roads, utilities, infrastructure, bridges, paving, drainage, etc.).
  4. Must possess knowledge and experience in ASTM, ACI, and other miscellaneous construction testing requirements, as well as knowledge in construction inspection procedures, and inspections methodologies, including the use of nuclear gauges, concrete sampling, and construction safety.
  5. MARTCP Certifications, OSHA 10 and E&S Certifications preferred.
  6. Prior experience with MDOT SHA is desired.
  7. Dependable transportation is required.
  8. Valid driver’s license.
  9. Ability to pass a background test.
  10. Must have good verbal and written communication and organizational skills.
  11. Must be fluent in both written and spoken English.

Compensation:

Expected Salary: $29.52-35/hour

WSP USA is providing the compensation range that the company in good faith believes it might pay and offer for this position, based on the successful applicant’s education, experience, knowledge, skills, abilities in addition to internal equity and specific geographic location.
