Job summary

Bauman Landscape and Construction, Inc. is seeking a Construction Financial Controller to lead the accounting function and deliver reliable financial insights for ownership and leadership. The role focuses on accurate job costing, inter-company transactions, and quarterly reporting within a fast-moving construction environment.

You will oversee day-to-day accounting, AP/AR, GL, close processes, and monthly statements while guiding a growing accounting team in Northern California operations.

Qualifications

• 5+ years as an accounting leader or controller in a construction setting.
• Experience overseeing accounts payable/receivable, GL, and month-end close.
• Strong job costing and project financial reporting knowledge.
• Familiarity with ERP systems and financial controls.

Responsibilities

• Oversee day-to-day accounting and financial operations.
• Oversee AP/AR, GL, and related accounting functions.
• Prepare monthly financial statements, packages, and analyses.
• Manage month-end and year-end close processes.
• Maintain balance sheet reconciliations and records.
• Oversee budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow reporting.
• Monitor project financial performance and costing.
• Provide leadership with meaningful financial information for decisions.
• Maintain internal controls and reporting processes.
• Coordinate with CPA firms, tax advisors, auditors, and partners.
• Identify opportunities to improve accounting systems and efficiency.
• Lead and develop accounting team.

Construction Financial Controller

Job Type: Full-time, On-site

Bauman Landscape and Construction, Inc. and Bauman Redi-Mix, are seeking an experienced Financial Controller to oversee the company's accounting function and provide reliable financial insight to ownership and leadership.

We are a family-owned general engineering contractor serving Northern California since 1977. Our work includes earthwork, underground utilities, concrete, landscape & irrigation, and site development.

This is an opportunity for an experienced accounting professional who likes being close to the business, understands the importance of accurate job costing, inter-company transactions and sales tax reporting and regular quarterly financial reporting, and is comfortable working with a team in a fast-moving construction environment.

What You'll Be Responsible For

• Oversee day-to-day accounting and financial operations
• Oversee accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger, and related accounting functions
• Prepare timely monthly financial statements, reporting packages, and financial analysis
• Manage month-end and year-end close processes
• Maintain accurate balance sheet reconciliations and financial records
• Oversee budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow reporting
• Monitor project financial performance and maintain accurate construction job costing
• Provide leadership with meaningful financial information to support business decisions
• Maintain and strengthen accounting procedures, internal controls, and reporting processes
• Ensure accounting practices remain consistent with company policies and applicable standards
• Coordinate with outside CPA firms, tax advisors, auditors, and other financial partners
• Identify opportunities to improve accounting systems, processes, and efficiency
• Lead, support, and develop members of the accounting team

What We're Looking For

• 5+ years of progressive accounting experience
• Previous experience as a Financial Controller, Controller, Assistant Controller, Accounting Manager, Senior Accountant, or similar accounting leadership role
• Construction accounting experience is strongly preferred
• Strong working knowledge of construction job costing and project financial reporting
• Solid understanding of general ledger accounting, financial statements, reconciliations, and closing procedures
• Experience working with accounting or ERP platforms such as Spectrum, ProContractor, Sage/Vista, QuickBooks, or similar systems
• Advanced Microsoft Excel skills
• Strong analytical ability with excellent attention to detail
• Organized, dependable, and comfortable managing multiple priorities
• Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively with ownership, operations, and accounting teams
• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
• CPA designation is an asset but is not required
