Construction Excess Casualty Wrap Underwriter Senior

Zurich is seeking an experienced Construction Excess Casualty Wrap Underwriter (Senior or AVP). We are looking for talented professionals with flexibility in location within the East region – New York City, Boston, Philadelphia, or any other city with a Zurich office in the East. The position offers a hybrid work model, requiring visibility in the marketplace with in-office presence three days per week.

As a Construction Excess Casualty Wrap Underwriter (Senior or AVP), you will develop your career within a dynamic team, underwriting new and renewal business under limited guidance, using Zurich’s Underwriting Framework on complex accounts. The role emphasizes building strong relationships with customers and agents, with experience in construction wrap excess casualty preferred.

The position is filled at either the Senior Underwriter or AVP level, with the appropriate level determined by experience and skills.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Seek renewal and new account opportunities proactively.
  2. Demonstrate expertise in underwriting National Account business.
  3. Assess opportunities with key distributors to identify growth.
  4. Contribute to proposals, provide technical guidance, and train lower-level underwriters.
  5. Qualify accounts aligned with organizational appetite and business potential.
  6. Conduct agent/broker/customer calls with purpose and preparation.
  7. Negotiate terms and close deals.
  8. Cross-sell to increase product density.
  9. Participate in sales team meetings for assigned brokers or territories.
  10. Manage a pipeline of opportunities 90-120 days ahead of effective date.
  11. Develop broker and client networks relevant to underwritten industries.
Qualifications:
Senior Level:
  • High School Diploma + 5+ years in underwriting or market-facing roles OR
  • High School Diploma + 10+ years in claims or underwriting support OR
  • Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice + Associate Degree + 3+ years in underwriting or market-facing roles OR
  • Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice + Associate Degree + 8+ years in claims or underwriting support; knowledge of Microsoft Office; experience in time-sensitive quoting and teamwork.
AVP Level:
  • High School Diploma + 7+ years in underwriting or market-facing roles OR
  • High School Diploma + 14+ years in claims or underwriting support OR
  • Zurich approved Apprenticeship + Associate Degree + 5+ years in underwriting or market-facing roles OR
  • Zurich approved Apprenticeship + Associate Degree + 12+ years in claims or underwriting support; knowledge of Microsoft Office; experience with umbrella underwriting.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • CPCU certification
  • Deep knowledge of National Account Excess Casualty and related lines
  • Strong broker and customer relationships
  • Excellent communication, relationship-building, presentation skills, and results orientation.

Compensation varies based on location, experience, and skills. The salary range is $120,000 - $222,000, with specific ranges for Senior ($120,000 - $170,000) and AVP ($172,000 - $222,000) levels, including incentive bonuses. Zurich is committed to diversity and equal opportunity employment.
