Job description

Job Title: Construction Estimator (Wood Framing Estimator)

Location: Atlanta, GA

Our client is a well-established regional general contractor specializing in a range of medium to large-scale commercial construction projects across the Southeast. They are seeking a talented Construction Estimator with at least 4 years of experience, specifically with a strong track record in wood-frame estimating. Multifamily experience is preferred, but candidates with relevant commercial experience will be considered. (Single-family residential experience will not be considered.)

This position plays a critical role in supporting preconstruction efforts by developing accurate, scope-specific, and componentized estimates. The ideal candidate is analytical, proactive, and collaborative—able to work cross-functionally with project and field teams.

Responsibilities:

  • Wood Framing Takeoffs: Prepare detailed quantity takeoffs for wood framing scopes including lumber, labor, hardware, and hoisting—organized into individual packages.
  • Bid Evaluation: Analyze subcontractor bids, review scopes, and ensure comprehensive coverage of project requirements.
  • Project Understanding: Develop a strong understanding of construction documents, plans, and specifications.
  • Site Visits: Attend site walks, pre-bid meetings, and post-bid interviews to gather essential project information.
  • Data Collection & Analysis: Conduct data-driven estimate development based on project documents, historical data, and industry benchmarks.
  • Risk Assessment: Identify and evaluate risks related to cost, material volatility, and subcontractor coverage.
  • Reporting: Prepare detailed bid summaries, scope sheets, and estimate documentation for internal and external use.
  • Stakeholder Relationships: Maintain strong relationships with design teams, subcontractors, and vendors to ensure reliable pricing and scope alignment.
  • Cost Optimization: Contribute to constructability reviews and suggest value engineering options when appropriate.

Experience and Education:

  • Education: B.S. in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or a related field preferred. Equivalent experience with 5+ years in preconstruction or operations for commercial projects is acceptable.
  • Industry Knowledge: Solid understanding of wood framing systems, including rough carpentry, labor planning, lumber/hardware takeoffs, and CSI divisions.
  • Software: Proficient in Microsoft Excel and Outlook. Experience with Planswift and/or OnScreen Takeoff (OST) required.
  • Analysis Skills: Strong competency in data analysis, forecasting, and estimating metrics.
  • Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills; skilled at negotiation and scope clarification.
  • Organization: Detail-oriented, reliable, and able to manage competing priorities.

Requirements:

  • Proven experience as a construction estimator with a sound understanding of project management and basic construction accounting.
  • Strong attention to detail and a high level of comfort with numbers, systems, and estimating technology.
  • Must pass a pre-employment drug screen and background check.
