Qualifications

• Previous construction estimating experience is required.
• Residential renovations or luxury remodel experience is preferred.
• Ability to read architectural drawings, schedules, and specifications.
• Proficiency with Excel or comparable spreadsheet software.
• Experience with takeoffs, bid comparisons, and change-order pricing.
• Strong attention to quantities, scope coverage, and documentation control.
• Professional written and verbal communication skills.
• Reliable transportation and Bay Shore-area meeting availability.

Responsibilities

• Review architectural, structural, MEP, and interior drawing sets.
• Prepare takeoffs for labor, materials, equipment, and subcontracted work.
• Develop preliminary budgets, detailed estimates, allowances, alternates, and value-engineering options.
• Create scopes identifying inclusions, exclusions, assumptions, and required clarifications.
• Solicit proposals from subcontractors, vendors, and suppliers.
• Follow up with trade partners regarding pricing, availability, and lead times.

Location: This is a primarily remote position for candidates within commuting distance of Bay Shore, NY. Regular remote work is permitted, with occasional in-person meetings and project site visits in the Bay Shore/Long Island area as required.

We manage distinctive renovations, additions, and custom construction projects requiring thoughtful planning and detailed coordination. As our project pipeline grows, we are strengthening our preconstruction process and building a team that values accuracy, accountability, and collaboration.

We are seeking an experienced Construction Estimator to support budgeting, preconstruction, and project planning. You will work with company ownership, designers, project leadership, vendors, and subcontractors to translate custom residential plans into organized scopes and dependable estimates.

This is a flexible, primarily remote position, but candidates should live within a reasonable commuting distance of Bay Shore. You must be available to attend office meetings, project walkthroughs, and in-person coordination sessions when needed.

Key Responsibilities

• Review architectural, structural, civil, MEP, and interior drawing sets.


• Prepare takeoffs for labor, materials, equipment, and subcontracted work.


• Develop preliminary budgets, detailed estimates, allowances, alternates, and value-engineering options.


• Create scopes identifying inclusions, exclusions, assumptions, and required clarifications.


• Solicit proposals from subcontractors, vendors, and suppliers.


• Compare and level bids to identify pricing differences, omissions, and scope gaps.


• Follow up with trade partners regarding pricing, availability, and lead times.


• Analyze historical costs, vendor pricing, labor assumptions, and project conditions.


• Identify constructability concerns, long-lead materials, and significant cost risks.


• Prepare pricing for design revisions, selections, change orders, and unforeseen conditions.


• Maintain organized bid tabs, pricing information, revisions, and clarification logs.


• Help improve the company's estimating systems, processes, and cost information.


• Attend local meetings, drawing reviews, and project walkthroughs when needed.

Qualifications

• Previous construction estimating experience is required.


• Custom residential, luxury renovation, or residential remodeling experience is strongly preferred.


• Knowledge of residential assemblies, sequencing, finishes, and trade coordination.


• Ability to read architectural drawings, schedules, consultant plans, and specifications.


• Experience preparing budgets, scopes, bid comparisons, allowances, and change-order pricing.


• Proficiency with Microsoft Excel or comparable spreadsheet software.


• Experience with digital takeoff or construction management platforms preferred.


• Familiarity with or willingness to learn Resio or similar software.


• Strong attention to quantities, scope coverage, assumptions, and document control.


• Professional written and verbal communication skills.


• Able to work independently while remaining responsive to the team.


• Reliable transportation and availability for Bay Shore-area meetings and site visits.

Compensation

• Pay: $35 - $50 per hour based on experience, qualifications, and the agreed part-time schedule.


• Approximately 15-25 hours per week, with scheduling flexibility based on project volume and bid deadlines.


• 6 paid federal holidays.


• Primarily remote work with local hybrid flexibility.
