Job summary

Structor Group is seeking an Estimator to join our Preconstruction and Estimating Department, focusing on healthcare projects and commercial construction. You will develop accurate estimates, perform quantity takeoffs, solicit subcontractor pricing, and analyze bids to support competitive, high-quality bids from Concept through final bid delivery.

Qualifications

  • 3+ years of commercial construction estimating or preconstruction experience.
  • Healthcare construction estimating experience preferred, incl. renovations or projects in active facilities.
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred; equivalent relevant construction experience considered.
  • Experience preparing estimates, quantity takeoffs, bid packages, and subcontractor scope comparisons.
  • Strong ability to read construction drawings, specs, and contract documents.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, especially Excel.
  • Familiarity with Sage, BuildingConnected, Procore, Destini or similar platforms preferred.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, problem-solving and time-management skills.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare detailed cost estimates and competitive bids for commercial and healthcare projects.
  • Develop estimates through conceptual budgeting to construction documents.
  • Perform quantity takeoffs, pricing summaries, and scope evaluations by division.
  • Review drawings, specs, contracts to identify scope and risks.
  • Solicit subcontractor pricing and maintain relationships with trade partners.
  • Analyze subcontractor bids for coverage, exclusions, and pricing.
  • Prepare bid comparisons and coordinate bid-day submissions with the team.
  • Identify scope gaps and constructability concerns affecting cost.

Job description

The Estimator plays a key role within Structor Group’s Preconstruction and Estimating Department, supporting the pursuit and successful planning of commercial construction projects with a strong focus on healthcare construction. This position is responsible for developing accurate and competitive estimates through all phases of preconstruction, including conceptual budgeting, quantity takeoffs, subcontractor solicitation, bid analysis, scope evaluation, and final bid preparation. The Estimator works closely with the Preconstruction team, Operations, subcontractors, design professionals, and clients to identify project risks, evaluate constructability, and provide cost-effective solutions while supporting Structor Group’s commitment to quality and client service.

Job Responsibilities
  • Prepare detailed cost estimates and competitive bids for small to large-scale commercial and healthcare construction projects.
  • Develop conceptual, schematic, design-development, and construction-document estimates throughout the preconstruction process.
  • Perform detailed quantity takeoffs, pricing summaries, and scope evaluations for assigned divisions of work.
  • Review and interpret drawings, specifications, contracts, and other project documents to identify scope requirements and potential risks.
  • Solicit subcontractor and vendor pricing and maintain strong relationships with the subcontractor community.
  • Analyze subcontractor proposals for completeness, scope coverage, exclusions, and pricing.
  • Prepare bid comparisons and leveling spreadsheets and coordinate with the Preconstruction team for bid-day submissions.
  • Identify scope gaps, overlaps, constructability concerns, and potential cost impacts.
  • Participate in design, preconstruction, and budget meetings and provide cost input throughout project development.
  • Develop value-engineering options and cost-saving recommendations while maintaining project quality and client objectives.
  • Assist with project-specific logistics, phasing, and scheduling considerations that may impact project costs.
  • Support estimating requirements unique to active and occupied healthcare environments, including phasing, infection‑control measures, temporary conditions, shutdowns, and off‑hours work.
  • Maintain organized estimating documentation, historical cost information, subcontractor proposals, and bid records.
  • Collaborate with Project Managers, Project Executives, Superintendents, and other team members to support the transition from preconstruction into construction.
  • Assist with subcontractor scope development and buyout activities as needed.
  • Stay current on market conditions, material pricing, labor trends, and subcontractor availability.
Minimum Qualifications
  • 3+ years of commercial construction estimating or preconstruction experience required.
  • Healthcare construction estimating experience strongly preferred, including renovations, expansions, or projects within active healthcare facilities.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field preferred; equivalent relevant construction experience will be considered.
  • Demonstrated experience preparing estimates, quantity takeoffs, bid packages, and subcontractor scope comparisons.
  • Strong understanding of commercial construction means, methods, materials, sequencing, and costs.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, and other contract documents.
  • Strong understanding of subcontractor scopes and trade coordination.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, problem‑solving, and time‑management skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple estimates and deadlines simultaneously.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel.
  • Experience with Sage, BuildingConnected, Procore, Destini and/or other construction estimating platforms preferred.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing accurate, complete estimates.
Working Conditions and Physical Requirements

This position is primarily performed in an office environment but may require visits to active construction sites, healthcare facilities, pre‑bid meetings, and project locations.

The employee must be able, with or without reasonable accommodation, to sit for extended periods, operate a computer, communicate in person and by telephone, walk active construction sites, and occasionally lift or move objects weighing up to 20 pounds.

Because this position may visit active healthcare facilities, employees may be required to comply with applicable site‑specific health, safety, access, vaccination, testing, or other facility requirements.
