Job summary

Actalent in Reno, NV seeks a Construction Estimator to lead detailed budgets, estimates, and bid proposals for multifamily, commercial, and mixed-use projects. You will conduct quantity takeoffs, review drawings, and develop costed scopes to ensure competitive proposals.

You will coordinate with preconstruction, operations, and business development, manage multiple estimates, and present findings to owners and subcontractors.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of progressive estimating experience.
• Experience estimating multifamily, commercial, mixed-use or similarly complex projects.
• Ability to independently manage estimates from initial review through submission.
• Proficiency in quantity takeoffs, cost analysis, pricing strategies and bid evaluation.

Job Description The Construction Estimator leads the development of accurate and competitive project budgets, estimates, and bid proposals for multifamily, commercial, mixed-use, and other complex construction projects. This role performs detailed quantity takeoffs, evaluates subcontractor proposals, and supports preconstruction efforts to ensure projects are well-planned, cost-effective, and aligned with client expectations. The Construction Estimator collaborates closely with internal teams and external partners, taking ownership of estimate accuracy, documentation, and overall preconstruction support while contributing to the company’s growth in a new region.

Responsibilities

• Lead the preparation of detailed project budgets, estimates, bid proposals, and conceptual pricing exercises for a variety of construction projects.
• Review drawings, specifications, and construction documents to perform accurate quantity takeoffs and ensure complete scope coverage.
• Develop clear and comprehensive scopes of work while identifying potential gaps, exclusions, risks, and cost-saving opportunities.
• Solicit proposals from subcontractors and suppliers, manage the bid collection process, and maintain organized bid documentation.
• Analyze, compare, and level subcontractor and supplier bids to confirm complete scope alignment and competitive pricing.
• Identify and implement procurement and pricing strategies that enhance estimate accuracy and project competitiveness.
• Participate in value engineering efforts and constructability reviews to optimize project design, cost, and schedule outcomes.
• Collaborate closely with Business Development, Operations, and Preconstruction teams throughout the pursuit and preconstruction process.
• Establish and maintain strong, productive relationships with subcontractors, suppliers, consultants, owners, and other industry partners.
• Assist with project handoff and transition activities following the successful award of work, ensuring a smooth transfer to operations.
• Manage multiple estimating assignments simultaneously while meeting deadlines and maintaining high-quality deliverables.
• Take ownership of estimate accuracy, supporting documentation, and overall preconstruction support efforts.
• Present professionally in customer-facing settings and build trust-based relationships with owners and subcontractors.

Essential Skills

• Minimum of 7 years of progressive construction estimating experience.
• Experience estimating multifamily, commercial, mixed-use, or similarly complex construction projects.
• Proven ability to independently manage estimates from initial project review through final submission.
• Strong proficiency in performing quantity takeoffs, cost analysis, pricing strategies, and subcontractor bid evaluation.
• Solid understanding of construction means and methods, project sequencing, and scope development.
• Experience evaluating project risks and identifying opportunities to improve competitiveness and value.
• Established network of subcontractor and supplier relationships within the construction industry.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present effectively in customer-facing situations.
• Ability to work cross-functionally with Operations, Business Development, and Preconstruction teams.
• Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines simultaneously.
• Detail-oriented mindset with a strong commitment to accuracy, accountability, and high-quality work.
• Proficiency with construction estimating software tools.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including tools for documentation, analysis, and scheduling.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience in commercial construction and preconstruction environments.
• Background in multifamily and mixed-use estimating, including complex project types.
• Familiarity with Procore or similar construction management platforms.
• Experience with viewpoint or comparable project and financial management systems.
• Experience using Microsoft Project or similar scheduling software.
• Ability to build and maintain strong relationships with owners, subcontractors, and industry partners.

Work Environment

This role is primarily office-based, with occasional travel to project sites as needed to support estimating and preconstruction activities. Job Type & Location

This is a Permanent position based out of Reno, NV.

Pay And Benefits

The pay range for this position is $90000.00 - $110000.00/yr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
