Job summary

Wagman is seeking a Construction Engineer to join our Geotechnical Services Team in Virginia. The role involves field supervision support, scheduling, testing, and coordination with subcontractors and owners.

Travel to project sites in the Mid-Atlantic region is expected. Candidates should have a structural engineering background and experience with field documentation and QA/QC processes.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in structural engineering preferred with emphasis on heavy structures.
• Knowledge of field testing, inspection, scheduling and reporting.
• Experience with field coordination and subcontractor oversight is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Initiate and develop detailed work plans with field supervision to ensure safety and quality.
• Build 3-week crew schedules and provide weekly updates.
• Provide CPM schedule updates to Project Manager to meet requirements.
• Coordinate with design engineers, inspectors, subcontractors, and vendors.
• Assist with shop drawings, RFIs, submittal logs, and invoice coding.

Job: Construction Engineer

Location: Dinwiddie, VA

Pay Range: 60K/year -80K/year (Based on experience)

We are currently seeking a ConstructionEngineer to join our Wagman Geotechnical Services Team.

Wagman is a fourth generation, family-owned company with offices in Pennsylvania and Virginia and is headquartered in York, PA. We are multi-faceted construction firm with major operations in heavy civil, general construction and geotechnical construction services. Core competencies include design-build, infrastructure, marine construction, modified concrete, grooving and grinding, and geotechnical construction services.

Wagman is seeking a field-oriented Construction Engineer to join our Geotechnical Services Group in Virginia.

Headquartered in Berryville, VA, our Geotechnical Services team carries work in the Mid-Atlantic region focusing on temporary shoring, drilling, piling, auger cast and other services. The Construction Engineer will assist our management team as well as field supervision. There will be some travel to our varying locations for project site visits, as well ahime in the Geotechnical Office. Responsibilities will include but not be limited to scheduling, testing, inspections, material purchasing and quantity reporting.

This is a safety sensitive position requiring work on construction sites with various safety hazards inherent in heavy construction.

This position is subject to drug testing and compliance policies associated with our status as a Federal Contractor.

Requirements:

• Knowledgeable in the following software: Word and Excel, Heavy Job, Heavy Bid, Viewpoint, OnBase, CAD
• Maintain a Valid Driver's License
• Ability to communicate in English both written and verbally
• 0 to three (0-3) years' experience in field engineering with a focus on structural or civil engineering, including testing, inspection, scheduling and quantity reporting, material purchasing, construction specifications, working knowledge of construction equipment, drawings, and coordinating subcontractors.
• Prefer experience with structural or geotechnical engineering and field support.

Education:

• Required: Bachelor's Degree in Structural Engineering is preferred. With an emphasis on Heavy Structural, Civil Roadway, and Geotechnical Foundations.

Essential Functions:

• Initiate and develop detailed work plans for specific crews with Field Supervision to ensure work is completed safely and timely with a high degree of quality.
• Responsible for building 3-week schedules for crews and update on a weekly basis.
• Provide the Project Manager with accurate CPM schedule updates to meet project requirements.
• Assist Project Manager, coordinate the work with Owner's Design Engineers, Inspection staff, Subcontractors, Vendors, Haulers, and Regulatory Agencies.
• Confirm receipt of materials and services with invoicing from vendors and subcontractors through OnBase invoice coding.
• Order materials/ tools required as related to specific crews; Review, analyze and resolve field construction problems, plan discrepancies or plan errors and omissions.
• Assist Project Manager with all administrative requirements within Wagman internal processes.
• Assist the Project Manager review and approve shop drawings, draft RFls and maintain submittal log. Provide technical support and interpretation to company supervisors and subcontractors through the ability to read and understand
• Understand and assist with Project Quality Control Plan
• Monitor all work for compliance with the Project Site Specific Safety Plan and the Wagman Environmental- Health and Safety Plan.
• Provide Project Manager with daily quantities specific to Contract Items to ensure accurate payment from the Owner; Reconcile monthly Pay Estimate with the Project Manager.
• Assist Project Manager to initiate utility locates.
• Assist Project Manager organize and maintain contract documents and Shop Drawings through a detailed Document Control policy.
• Assist Project Manager with Final Quantities and Project close out including all required "as-built plans".
• Perform QA/QC testing functions

Physical Requirements

• Able to lift up to 30 pounds from ground level to waist level.
• Able to bend, squat and kneel occasionally throughout a scheduled work shift.
• Able to climb ladders, if required.
• Continuous standing and walking required while outside.
• Able to perform simple grasping and fine manipulation tasks with both hands.
• Working outdoors in wet, muddy, cold, hot, and humid weather, may occur during site visits.
• Acceptable corrected vision (in both eyes) and acceptable corrected hearing required.
