Job summary

DGL Consulting Engineers, LLC is seeking a Construction Engineer to coordinate construction management, administration and inspection services in our multi-disciplinary firm.

Reporting to the Director of Technical Services, this full-time, non-exempt role requires 3–5 years of relevant construction engineering experience and a valid driver’s license. Responsibilities include supervision, project inspections, budget oversight and coordination with inspectors and surveyors.

• 3-5 years of construction engineering experience.
• Experience coordinating construction management, administration and inspection.
• Valid driver's license with favorable record.

Responsibilities

• Serve as Resident Engineer and/or Project Inspector on construction projects.
• Oversee daily inspection of contractor work and record activities.
• Review/approve shop drawings and contractor pay requests.
• Coordinate with engineers and surveyors and provide survey support.
• Support civil design and drafting for bridges, site, roadways, and traffic.

Job description

POSITION INFORMATION

As a multi-disciplinary engineering firm, success in this position will require the ability to coordinate all aspects of construction management, administration, and inspection services as necessary. DGL is looking for a well-rounded Construction Engineer to enhance the qualifications of our Construction Management Department.

• Reports to Director of Technical Services
• Full-time, Non-Exempt
• 3-5 years of previous experience in construction engineering

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Include but are not limited to the following:

• Work under supervision of a Project Manager or Senior-level Team Members
• Serve as Resident Engineer and/or Project Inspector on construction projects
• Communicate with Department leaders for understanding of project scope
• Oversee daily inspection of work performed by the contractor
• Record daily construction activities, quantities, contractor’s equipment and on-site personnel
• Scheduling and facilitating construction progress meetings
• Review/approve contractor’s shop drawing submittals
• Monitor overall project budget and review/approve contractor’s pay requests prior to submitting to owner for payment
• Review/approve contractor’s change orders
• Schedule and review material testing and make sure results are per project requirements and specifications
• Coordinate with other engineers and surveyors on project requirements
• Provide survey support as necessary
• Provide civil engineering design and drafting support (Bridge/Site/Roadway/Traffic) as necessary
• Obtain and maintain safety certifications and client pre-qualifications (ODOT/OTIC)

SKILL SET

• Experience with applicable computer software (Microsoft Office, MicroStation, AutoCAD, Primavera P6 Scheduling, AASHTOWare, GoFormz, etc.)
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Proven success in delivering high quality project submittals
• Must be well organized
• Professional demeanor
• Ability to communicate effectively with all types of people
• Valid Driver’s License required with a favorable driver’s record

EDUCATION/CERTIFICATIONS

• Bachelor’s Degree in Civil or Construction Engineering Technology from ABET Accredited Institution
• Ability to complete required courses and training to obtain and maintain ODOT/OTIC construction related pre-qualifications based on agency requirements and/or NICET Construction Certification
• ODOT construction pre-qualifications are required
